Hi.

We have decided we would like to tow my motorcycle on a trailer behind our motorhome, but cant seem to find an insurer that will cover both the trailer and motorcycle fully comprehensive, only third party. The motorcycle as its own comprehensive insurance but is only covered third party when being towed on trailer which is no good if you have a £12000 bike on trailer getting damaged or written off on a own fault claim.
Hopefully some one out there as also had this problem and could point us in the right direction.

Many Thanks.

Russell and Judi.

There is a specific term for this insurance but it isn't normal road insurance.
I think it's something like 'goods in transit' insurance and covers the bike as payload/cargo.
It MAY be your only option

You could try NFU (national farmers union) they do some strange insurance cover

Is it not covered by the motorhome insurance? When we had a caravan years ago, whilst attached to the car, it was covered on the car insurance.

Hi.
Thanks for welcome and reply I will try NFU, just need to find time to visit branch as I dont think they are so web site based as most insurers .

Cheers !!

Almost always on a third party basis.
If the trailer causes damage to other property your covered but your trailer isn't.....and even rarer is the cargo covered if ever.
Only insurer I know who insure a trailer for 'own damage' while being towed is NFU and then there's a £1000 limit. This excludes caravans and livestock trailers.

Expecting MH insurance to cover another vehicle is a bit optimistic. With bike theft rife, I would be expecting to pay through the nose for any kind of cover, as it is going to left out and visible wherever you park, and the insurer has no way of knowing where that is.
