My renewal quote from Comfort up by 5.3 % on last years. Read in paper last week that motor insurance had fallen in last year! What to believe?

I'd have thought that any published figure would be an average whereas yous is an actual based on your age / location / vehicle etc. I think you have to believe your quote

Our renewal with Advanced was within a couple of quid of the previous year.

Just got mine from Comfort and identical to last year, could be the breakdown cover gone up? Did find another quote £100 cheaper but no European cover provided but could be added for £91 extra along with other *extras* that were included with the Comfort one so will be stopping where I am

I had been with Comfort for 9 years. The premium increased by about a tenner each year until last October's renewal when it increased by about £70 (no claims at all whilst with them). After shopping around I renewed via the CAMC at £116 less than Comfort's renewal offer.

Thanks vanman.They said not to believe what we read in the press! Only difference from last year is I am another year older. ( errm now 77 .. ) As someone else said could be more related to increased cost of breakdown cover? I also asked about annual mileage ... only did about 2k last year but was told very little difference in quote if I we dropped limit from current 8k to say 5k. Will shop around, but reluctant to change from Comfort who do seem to have a good reputation.

I am another year older. ( errm now 77 .. )

I turn 77 next month so similar age to you.
I was surprised that the CAMC were competitive. They include European cover but I don't have breakdown cover with them as this is via my N'wide Plus bank account and covers all my vehicles ( m/h, 2 cars, 3 m/bikes and any vehicle in which I'm a passenger) plus a lot more features for about £13 a month.
