Hi all, my renewal price is quite high, time to look around I think! I have a 10'000 mile limit / UK&EU breakdown cover/ unlimited continental travel. No points, no claims for 6 years, what would be a reasonable price to expect to pay? And can anybody recommend a reputable company.
Thanks.

I pay around £300 with the same arrangements as yourself.
It is always worth shopping around each year as there is no longer any 'loyalty' incentive to remain with the same company year on year. I am with Shield but there are several other companies worth a look at including Comfort.
When I shopped around last time the NFU seemed most expensive but highly rated. I was with Saga until they put UP my premium for having a Tracker fitted (I had modified my van???)

Oooh is that new? I'm sure I didn't see that last year when we were looking for insurance. Our renewal is due soon so that'll be very useful thanks!
Not sure how new, they were there last August/September when I first thought about a MH and decided I'd best check I could afford the insurance ;)

I received a good quote from ClubCare (via Camping & Caravan Club) and I am not a member of the club. Members get a few percent discount.

We were with Lifesure and the renewal came in at £52 greater than last year. I then told them that I had hydraulic levelling installed a couple of months ago and the revised new premium was a further £48..

Started shopping around and went with CMC and their premium was same as my last years... Result. Interestingly the Lifesure quote was using the same insurer..AXA as the CMC....

Greedy methinks...

The answer also depends upon the value of the motorhome. The higher the value the higher the premium. And it definitely pays to shop around. I was not happy with my renewal quote and did that. Quotes ranged from £540 to £2,300 for very similar cover. Yes you read that last figure correctly. It was from the C&CC Insurers.

I'm of the view that with insurance you absolutely get what you pay for. Come the day of the races and you need to make a claim I want as little pain and anguish as possible.

I've been with NFU and have just renewed for my third year and at each renewal the price was less than previous years - not by a lot, £20 or so. While NFU were not the cheapest, and they were not massively more costly than others, when I was on the hunt for an insurer; they were the only one who would cover my needs without complication.

I wanted a package to cover not only the motorhome but a trailer and a Smart car, none of the other big names could/would do it. I could only imagine that dealing with seperate insurers/policies (motorhome, trailer and Smarty) would not be easy should the worst happen...less than £500 year for a very comprehensive policy, UK based handling and I feel absolutely confident that I'll be looked after well :)

To a very large extent I do agree with @jac-in-a-box comment.

The reputation of the Underwriting company and (if used) Broker is of paramount importance.

However, it doesn't always follow that a higher premium = a better policy. For example, in @peterc10 case, the premium of £2,300 simply reflects that the risk profile presented doesn't fit that company's niche, and they don't actually want the business. Insurers spend a lot of time/effort/money identifying niches in the market where they can expect a better return on the money.

So I think it's always best to find an insurer and broker who specialise in the sort of thing you want to cover, rather than just go for the cheapest possible price.

Would like to get a quote from NFU. Do you have a phone number please?
