My wife and I are thinking of buying a new motorhome. We have not owned one since 2018, when we sold our Autocruise PVC.
Have insurance prices rocketed since then?
I have just tried Comfort, who we use to be insured with, but they are closed until Monday.
I have put the details into compare the meerkat and have had prices for a £69000 Benimar come back at anything between £680 and £1100.
I think I paid just over £200 back in 2017/18 on a £48000 Autocruise. That was for the same address and cover.
I know I am a touch older, 72 now and have had a motorcycle accident, but that is a massive increase and may well put me off buying.
Do these figures seem about right. I presume they will not have taken into account any NCD based on my car insurance, and just classed my bike accident as a claim.
I will speak to Comfort on Monday and hear what they have to say.
I might add Adrian Flux were the most expensive.

Comfort have their own website and try the CAMC site £25 cheaper if you are a member if they cannot beat your quote

CAMC are about £800+ I have filled all the details in on Comfort, but they want to speak to me and they were closed when I rang. hanks for your answer anyway.

L.V. Got a quote today, £80,000 van Europe 180 days a year, European breakdown and recovery full cover for A Class windscreen. £376. I am a member of Boundless (CSMA) and have my Car, House, Travel & Motorhome with them.

Thanks Bessy'. I presume you also have full NCD?

Just got a quote from Comfort for our incoming Rapido 9048DF but they require a Cat 1 Thatcham alarm or one of 3 types of trackers.
Anyone else hit this with other insurers?

Update - MH has so many security devices it must have had a troubled childhood!

So far LV has been the most competitive but it is very hard to get a level playing field between quotes.

Pro tip - the LV website is rubbish for getting a quote. You end up on the car quote engine which has obviously (to an IT person) been spannered to include Motor Homes. When it can't find your registration number and only seems to offer cars, select the base chassis (Fiat in our case) then select engine size.
Ignore the bit about number of doors (it says 4 but our pending Rapido has only 2).

I got a phone quote and they accepted 5 years no claims from the caravan insurance.
Must try that elsewhere.
However the detailed questions were interesting, including "Do you want a courtesy car?" "Small or big?" haven't seen this elsewhere.
I think I need to tinker with the options and check back with Comfort for comparison.

They don't require any security devices (unlike Comfort) so that may help if you don't have Thatcham 1 security.

LV ahead at the moment, Boundless discount a help,
Comfort a steady second.
Caravan and Motorhome a distant 3rd.

Update - as I've seen Saga mentioned I have just filled in the quote form online.
They do seem more expensive than Comfort and LV.
However I now have a long exercise of making sure I am comparing like with like.

Don't know where you are but have you tried nfu, not website and not phone if you can help it, there is probably an office somewhere nearby that you can go in and talk to someone, which is the best option.

I think comfort don’t require NCB unlike most others

Get an alarm fitted be safe not sorry, and it should save you a bob or 2.

Quirky thing from reading the fine detail (and losing the will to live).
LV+ windscreen and windows cover excludes plastic windows.
I need to check that the plastic windows that most MH have are covered elsewhere.
Seems a strange exclusion.

Edit: I have confirmed with LV= that plastic side windows on Motor Homes are not covered under the policy. Still mulling that over, because I am assuming that these could be quite expensive to replace.

Edit 2: Just checked with Comfort and their windscreen cover does cover all windows, glass or plastic. This strengthens my view that LV+ have spannered MH cover into standard car cover and haven't really considered all the differences between cars and MH. This is pushing me away from LV= even though they are cheaper, I get a discount for Boundless membership, and they offer an NCB.
One example: some scrote forces their way into your MH via the habitation window. Your replacement window isn't part of any subsequent insurance claim.

Edit 3: Has anyone else insured with LV= noticed this in the policy, and found it acceptable?
