I have just started getting quotes and reading the small print re the policies.
So I am 56 the wife 54, she will be classed as a moderate driver, both no points, no accidents etc and full no claims on our cars, but no previous motorhome insurance.
The van is brand new, Cat 1 alarm, tracker and immobiliser and will be parked on a CASSOA site two mins from my house. I put 4k miles a year just as a starter, and £200 excess.
It has 2 years breakdown recovery warranty but some companies would only sell with recovery and said they didn't sell without recovery and couldn't remove it, some did 9 months away in Europe some did 12.
The results which were interesting: Comfort Ins £232 (No recovery)Safeguard £452 (recovery) NFU £1200 (recovery and no shotgun cartridges??) Scenic Motorhomes £260 (no recovery and small print put me off compared to others) Caravan guard £537(recovery)
Comfort and Safeguard are the exact same policy with Aviva.
Reading the small print apart from Scenic there were slight differences but nothing to lose sleep about.
There are deals to be done as Safeguard and Caravan Guard have rang back and left messages for me to contact again to talk about how their prices compared with other quotes.
£230 difference for the same policy with Arriva certainly shows the mark up and negotiating margins they put in place. Hope this helps anyone else searching around at the moment.

Thank you- we are in same position at moment but thinking if we will need a tracker . I also checked re windscreen replacement as some policies don’t cover full cost ( which is eye watering for some vans) still looking ...

Seems a no brainier to go with Comfort.
if you are getting a MH on a Fiat base, ensure your dealer gets the extra year Fiat assist for you so you don’t need to worry about breakdown for 3 years.

enjoy!

Often recover supplied with a new vehicle is only recovery to a local garage who will fix the vehicle. Fine if you have time but normally recovery supply with these insurance include direct recovery back to your home or destination.
If you MH is over 3.5T or certain length a lot of breakdown policies will not cover you and you will need a specialist cover. Check their policies to make sure you are covered.

Just for info
Comfort quoted me £280 with 3 extra drivers
Safeguard quoted £660 then rang back within 4 hours asking if they were to match Comfort price would we go with them

I tried to explain why that had wound me up, but felt it was falling on deaf ears

Motorhome Guard re contacted me and I said it’s the same policy as Comfort but £200 difference. Their reply was that Comfort got bigger discounts with Aviva as they buy lots of their policies???

Wouldn't bother with NFU as i gave them a call yesterday as mine is up for renewal and they quoted me £1280 with recovery but they only recover MHs up to 5.5m. I asked them to show me a MH that is under 5.5m as from what I am aware of most are easily over this and ours is 8.5m. I jst wished they started with this as then i could of saved myself 25mins on the phone. Renewed with comfort again as same price as last year aside from £15 increase. Nobody can beat them that I called not even the price comparison sites.

We did the phone around when we got the Devon and our local NFU quoted something exorbitant as well and we had a 5.4m van, some franchises give a good price for motorhomes and our local (Marlow) quotes massively high.

We've only had our MH for 2 months so have been through this recently. I found NFU very expensive so got quotes from about 5 of the main companies mentioned on the thread dedicated to MH insurance on this forum entitled "Motorhome insurance general discussion" on the main page. I Finished up going though Groves and Dean who are brokers. From memory I paid in the region of £230 for all the usual benefits and 90 days euro cover which is fairly common. Our van's value is about £45k.

Once again insurance quotes are wildly all over the place - no wonder folk get confused!

I'd check again with Comfort - I have UK and European breakdown cover with them for around £65 in the premium.

Sometimes it's who you speak to and what you say, although up to now (apart from the stupid Green Card surcharges) I can't fault Comfort.
