Hi all,
having tried and failed to get an insurance quote with breakdown cover for a large motorhome in Eire/ROI, tried as a last resort to use a uk registered business to register and insure ...........only to be told by Comfort/Safeguard that they don't cover business owned MHs.
Snookered again!!:frowny:
Any suggestions out there?

or you business insurer, if its part of the business, they may have an auto policy

I have business motorhome insurance with Aviva through AIB. AIB work with so many underwriters they can often help when no one else can. They do a Funster discount too (y)
I spoke with AIB & they were to have somebody call me back....at leastI didn't get a "no" at the first stage! I guess I will follow up with them again after the weekend. If I get to the business end of it I'll be glad of the Funster discount. At this stage I am going to some lengths to find a workaround !! but I'm not ready yet to give up entirely on the project.
I had agreed a deal earlier in the summer on an ideal van when I unexpectedly couldn't get an insurance quote here for full value or breakdown
Thanks

I would have though any large Insurance Broker, like Adrian Flux, would be able to help. I'm trying desperately to remember who I insured my Coaches and Buses with, I think it was a company called Red Star? (not sure if they do breakdown cover?)

Thanks...I'll give that a go anyway. I tried the commercial brokers who cover buses, trucks etc over here, but they won't touch motorhomes

I may be wrong but it’s the Keeper of the vehicle who is responsible for insurance not the owner, so if you register as a private (?as opposed to business) keeper that may work.

We have business use on.our moho, ours is with the NFU Mutual. It's a good price, but breakdown isn't included, however EU travel is unlimited.

It is the owner who is ultimately responsible for the vehicle and, I think, if it is registered privately, it cannot be deducted from the business tax unless shown as hired which also has implications for the named owner?
Best get some advice from your Accountant before going down that route.

Top of V5c ‘ It shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle.

Thanks for that. Useful to know.
Did you get a breakdown policy elsewhere?

Yes,currently with LV because its quite a thorough euro policy with 90 day breaks. But there are done excellent value shorter break covers out there if you search.

Mine is insured for business with A-Plan's Thatcham branch. My previous insurers initially refused to insure it for business. Then they said they would, provided my car wasn't also insured for business. Since both my vehicles need to be insured for business use I had to change insurers. Then A-Plan wouldn't insure it for an 'agreed value' BECAUSE it was insured for business. So you can't really win. I have to have business cover, so I went with what was offered. But I will look about again next year, following up on some of the suggestions on this thread.
