Not sure about household policies but we have specific e-bike insurance with yellow jersey. Pretty comprehensive policy that includes European cover and multi-bike discounts. Might be worth considering if you fail to combine one with your household policy?

Good luck

We're with Home Protect: https://www.homeprotect.co.uk/

They cover our E-bikes at £500 each but we could have had a higher value if we'd wanted but they only cost us that so its fine for us, they also have a good policy and are very well priced:

This is what's included as standard:

Get ready to lay out some serious dosh if you want expensive e bikes insuring. Our home and contents insurance wouldn't touch us with e bikes. Specialist e bike insurers are not cheap. Cheapest quote we got was around £200. After more research on several so called specialist e bike insurers we decided not to bother at the moment. Check out insurance threads on bike forums.

Just about to renew our house with Direct Line again as they cover E bikes up to £1000 each as standard, was also able to upgrade the policy last year to cover my Koga E deluxe valued at £2700 which was somewhere round £65-70 extra which i consider good value as a stand alone policy for it would be as much as the renewal quote for house and contents this year. Had the misfortune to have to make a claim in 2014 for one of the E bikes that got nicked off the back of the van in Calais on the sea front aire, got a police report made a claim and they paid up OK.
Just give them a call, may be worth your while.

We changed the house insurance to Direct Line last year, only company that would cover the e- bikes for a reasonable sum and insure the house in a high flood risk area. Its never flooded here but on the DOE map as high risk.

Just been round the houses with this, we have 2 electric bikes worth 1800 each wanted cover through europe for 30 day minimum trips, our Buildings and Content insurer More Than wanted 264, although as a goodwill would do it for 214.00, as part of home insurance renewal process found Intelligent Insurance who added the bikes on for 20.00/annum.

Of the dedicated cycle insurers the best quote was from Procycle 109.00 total for both bikes, they were the cheapest and the policy looked fine, some bits on other policies are better but when it boils down to it, we want cover if the bikes are stolen or involved in an accident, not worried about competition fee or personal items as covered under other policies. Next nearest was 165.00 the rest Cycleguard, Yellow Jersey were all over 200 etc..

No Intelligent Insurance quoted for the Buildings and Contents and we asked them to cover both electric bikes away from home (and Europe) the price difference with and without the bikes was about 20 pounds, their House insurance was also than MoreThan price. If we do use them for the House insurance then they are the cheapest bike insurance we have found. I think if you have the right insurer then adding onto your house insurance is the cheapest way to go. Unless you are with More Than who are just a thieving capitalist organisation (Grrr!!)

Sorry but MoreThan wind me up ... and breath and relax and happy again :)

When I enquired with this company they told me they did not insure electric bikes only peddle ones . I was not able to find a company who would combine electric bikes with building and contents insurance . I was quoted over £300 for seperately insurance for our bikes :(

We no longer insure our electric bikes because we rarely use them now. When we did we used a specialist cycling insurer called ETA Services Ltd just for the bikes, because we could not get our home insurer to cover them. The total cost for two electric bikes, valued at £750 each, was about £120 as of February 2015. Covered theft accidental damage, vandalism, new-for-old, worldwide cover and £1M third party cover.

I have house insurance that covers my 2500 worth pedal bikes home and away but won't cover an ebike? How interesting is this thread. .
Even if I had a 600 pound e bike it wouldn't be covered despite being loads less than the pedal bike. .

Good job I'm fit ATM and not considering a cheat bike...
And despite Mrs H desire to get one I have now a great reason to tell her she shouldn't (y)(y)

It's so annoying not being able to combine insurance for ebikes with house insurance cover they will only cover Amanda's cyclon tandem trike and her folding diblasi r32 trike so long as they don't go over 5,000 but only at home in the locked shed .
But won't cover ebike . Amanda had new trike with power assist the di blasi r34 for Christmas (only a second hand one though ) but would be 2,400 to replace if it was stolen :( so along w ith my second hand ebike thought to replace would be an expensive game hence trying to find cover :( I was quoted nearly £400 per year for all bikes to be covered at home and away :( still havnt found solution yet X Kate

Did you try Direct line??
Yes rang direct line but would have to have a special arrangement for our circumstances for the diblasi bikes BUT they do not and will not cover any type of Bike on the back of a motorhome on a bike rack even if vehicle us occupied . So for us it's a no go because the tandem is on the back . They will cover if locked in motorhome on standard or plus but for us as two if the bikes are different from norm they have to be individually priced . So it would not cover all our needs . I have contact details of the person I dealt with in case you or anyone on Fun require it . She did say if people are carrying any bike on the back of the motorhome and insured with direct line do they do not and will not cover them . It is in the small print :( Regards Kate
Ps just checked with out motorhome insurance and not covered that way either .
We would be covered with Rias insurance on the back of motorhome though :)

Not sure why that is, but I think they are a broker of sorts checked our policy details as we are still within 14 days and the bikes are seperately listed items. More than took ages to quote and had to speak to a specialist adviser, but got an quote.

We use Pro-Cycle Insurance. Covers us worldwide. Two bikes total £4300, personal liability £2,000,000. Cycle hire £1,000 if stolen. Clothing and accessories £1,000. Personal accident £10,000. Premium is £127.95 with a £50 excess per claim. Covers us everywhere including secured to MH. Must have Sold Secure silver or gold locks and MH must have immobiliser and alarm either factory fitted or professionally installed.

We trawled through loads of providers and this was by far the best value. They were also very efficient and helpful dealing with our many queries.
