Just checked my notes from the recent call I had with NFU regarding my new van
They quote dropped to £475 if I had a Cat 1 Alarm OR a Tracker (not both)
Whilst NFU didn't insist on either they did offer a discount.
They also said that if you didn't have the alarm or tracker when starting the policy that they would refund the saving once you had.

That was for £120K cover

It's now 48 hours and providing you ring them and tell tell they will allow longer periods.
Strange that, as they told my brother last week that there were no exceptions and cover lapsed immediately you went over the threshold.

They also advertise their services as being "365 day EU cover" but neglect to say that is only whilst you are physically occupying the van or point out that it is not full time cover

just rang them as online couldn't enter MH details o_O

great price, seems very good package using Aviva

but they have option for up to 10K miles or unlimited

£361 or £430 + £62 for full European and UK recovery max 6 calls / year (even for my Hymer should be plenty :LOL:)

£200 XS, £75 windscreen XS, 9mnonths max European travel per year but can be continuous

thanks Sue, not called other yet, but cross with myself for paying too much last year and previous :(
Have been with Comfort Insurance for 7 years and always felt they've offered the best all round deal from our perspective re full European and breakdown cover. Fortunately, not had to make a claim, however, and guess that is when you really find out how good your insurer is. :)

Be aware that Comfort's version of the Aviva policy will not allow you to leave the vehicle unattended in the EU for more than 36 hours, whatever the reason (hospital, breakdown, weekend in an hotel, etc). Check the policy wording very carefully
That is not quite my understanding of the 'unattended' rule. I discussed the subject at length 13 months ago, and verified it again last month at renewal. We have an interest in the Holiday Property Bond (HPB) and frequently drive in the van to different continental locations to stay in apartments, chalets, or villas for a week or more. We do keep the van close by - usually on the premises - and always check it each day - but we are not necessarily travelling or sleeping in it. Comfort have confirmed that the way we use it is perfectly acceptable to the underwriters.

Their rule is that the van should not be left for more than 36 hours without the personal supervision of the insured, unless separately agreed with the company on each occasion. ie You can't put it into storage in Spain, for example, and fly back to the UK for a few days - even if it is in secure storage; unless specific agreement has been obtained from the underwriter (and no doubt an additional premium paid).

My personal experience of AIB is that they are very reluctant to put anything in writing, except reminder letters.
So when renewal came around with a mistake in the paperwork, I told them I wouldn't deal with them by phone due to this and previous errors not corrected, nor records updated after advising them by phone. I got various 'excuses' why they couldn't put stuff in writing including "data protection" and this offer isn't from their panel of insurers" and reminder letters & calls did not cease, all from different agents.
Needless to say my car is now insured with Axa via Lloyd's via the Meercats and the MH via Safeguard (unlimited mileage) at significantly lower premiums.
One year of AIB was quite enough.

We bought our 'van in Feb so that's when we started with van Insurance.
After one year and while trying to find Insurance it was apparent that we will not be home in Feb. so needed to do something to move the Insurance to a time when we would be in the UK.
AIB offered the opportunity to cancel their Policy after six months, retain six months of the value I had paid and reinsure thereby moving the Insurance into the summer months when we would have been in the UK.
HOWEVER, GRRRRR!!!!! when I did so I was told that although the vehicle Insurance was cancelled and 6mths value was transferred onto the new Policy, when it came to the Breakdown element, I lost the six months as AIB told me that I couldn't cancel that and retain 6mths for transfer. They said I couldn't have one without the other. They didn't tell me that in our discussions in the Feb. when they said that the Insurance could be cancelled and renewed at full value, that they wouldn't include the Breakdown element.

So, if AIB want to know why they didn't get my business this year, read the above.
That, and the fact that when they sent me the renewal documentation, there was no mention of the Breakdown Plan when they quoted their figure. I consider that omission to be a deliberate misrepresentation and couched in order to await the phone call when they would have dropped it in my lap. Add to the Insurance the Breakdown element and their price, to include just 90 days away at a time and 8000 miles was not competitive.

PS. Went with Safeguard. No limit on foreign travel and no limit on mileage (and £45 cheaper)

Oh! That reminds me (AIB reluctant to put things into writing etc.) Another reason they put my nose out of joint. They charged me £25 for changing the 'vans Reg. No. when I went on a 'Private Plate' They took umbrage when I suggested that I charge them £25 to change the Cert of Ins. when I discovered they had C*cked up with the change.(They got it wrong)

Don't want to keep on about nfu but these sort of things , they don't charge for, ok you might say it's in the cost in the first place, but according to some of the premiums being banded about , they aren't even the dearest(y):)

Ok might have been £23 cannot recall exactly did not look around as made a claim and their claims service is 2nd to none. Well impressed
Only increased as doing 2.3k return trip to Lake Garda. Only did 4k last year.

Unless you particularly want a local contact, go to their website and look up the Louth office. They have built up a bit of a specialisation in m/h insurance.

Otherwise look for your local office, then phone, email or call in.

Yep. Discussed it with Comfort when renewing this year and they confirmed that if you go over mileage and make a claim then they will just ask you to pay the extra charge due.

Its all down to the Insurance Act 2015
If you are deemed to have been honest they can do this and still pay the claim.
However if they deem you have been deliberate in stating lower mileage ie past mot's show 10k miles and you been saying 5k then expect claim to be turned down

I agree. Its not a route to regularly go over without paying, but it was good to know that insuring with too big a milage limit "just in case" was a waste as going over as a one off wasn't the end of the world .

Always a bug bare of mine.... You insure a vehicle and they don't want you to use it, that's after having to fit every possible anti theft device etc so the risk is minimal... It's a joke really

Was rather impressed that sure guard is unlimited mileage
