Interesting info regarding tyres and insurance in France, but bet UK 🇬🇧 insurance will jump on the band wagon if you have an accident anywhere now !!!!

Here We don’t need any rules as the insurance just won’t pay out if you’re on summer tyres in winter weather, slip on some ice in early Nov and crash you’re car and it’s an expensive mistake to make, hence everyone uses 4 season and winter rubber.

the insurance can only refuse to pay out for your vehicle. They are legally liable for all third party claims regardless of what you are doing/whether you are legal. They may/probably will then come after you for what they had to pay out to the 3rd party.

I don't see how they can chase the driver
The insurers agreed to pay ligitamate 3rd party claims so to me they can't legally come after the insuree....it's a risk they undertook

Sorry but I am puzzled by this. I have never ever seen "Summer" tyres for sale though I have seen Winter tyres and tyres that perform well in the rain etc.

In the UK I am not aware of any prescriptive requirement as to tyres in winter or summer whereas in Alpine regions there is a requirement for tyres to bear the snowflake winter tyre emblem and to carry chains in the winter months.

Sorry just seen you are based in Switzerland - Duh!

Many parts where snow is the norm in winter have a requirement for snow tyres in certain periods of the year which makes sense to me but never seen any comments before about the insurance aspect. Note that if you travel to the areas covered at the time they are required you have to have them regrdless of nationality

Look on any tyre sellers site they list summer, all season & winter tyres.

Can anyone recommend tyres with the snowflake that we could use all year please and travelling in heat as well as snow

We have "snow" tyres on our car all year round as they are better in mud than normal tyres. Lots of mud on the roads from the tractors around here.
No such thing as snow tyres.

Summer tyres
All-season tyres
Winter tyres
Nordic tyres (studded).

Then there are of course those referred to as off-road and slicks !.

In the UK, back many years we referred to all-season as town and county .

I have written a lot about tyres on lots of sites. I’ve run small fleets for years . Every motorhome we have owned have been run on winter tyres.

Insurance companies. That’s another story

Winter tyres are referred to as "snow" tyres here. The ones on the car are marked "M&S" which my local garage refers to as "mud and snow".

Winter Tyres, that are rated M+S as are many All-Season tyres.

Otherwise you would be referring to both Winter and All-Season Tyres as Snow Tyres.

I’ve just bought the Michelin cross climate camper tyres they have a 10 yrs life span load rating 118 they have the 3 peaks emblem there quieter on the road and not has harsh . Psi max 76 fabulous in this weather cost £200 each fitted

A funster posted a couple of days ago they got them direct from Toyo for £120, I checked and Mytyres were £143. I got mine from Tyre Leader, but that was a couple of years ago.
Found some for £117 fitted, which is good price, but wondering about performance in snow, I know you always chase the sun Lenny, but wondered if you had experience of Toyo in the snow please x

I don't have 'snow' tyres but like you we're outnumbered by tractors, but the roads are always clear of mud till ..........
I wash the car

It's uncanny how often it happens:rollingeyes:

Whilst we are on the subject has anyone had any experience of these type of tyres? I’m interested to know why they are like if you want to use them year round. I would expect them to perform well on grass and mud and icy wet surfaces but what about dry summer smooth roads, traction and noise levels? It’s a BF Goodrich all terrain tyre if the image doesn’t make it! Would be fitted to a Fiat Ducato 6.36m 3.5t converted van.
