Discovered an easy trap to fall into today. Last year my insurance company quoted, I accepted and by default it was automatically renewed, all online. However, on checking my policy today, I noticed that the mileage on the schedule was lower than the earlier MOT mileage. The origin of the schedule mileage figure is a mystery, particularly as I wasn’t asked to provide it on renewal. If, like me your agreed mileage is looking a bit marginal, you could end up exceeding it. I asked the broker what would happen in the event of a claim and she said the underwriter would probably use the MOT data - no fault of the insured party but could end in the brown stuff!

I've increased mine in the past when it was getting close to my insured mileage with no premium increase (Comfort Ins.).
When my ins renewal was due at the beginning of Covid I reduced my mileage from 10,000 to 3,000 and there was no reduction in premium.

I have an agreed mileage of 8k mile's and I have to keep an eye on it. It's due for it's first MOT in April with the current mileage at 23800. Close
I had a claim about 5 years ago and they wanted a photo of the mileage sending to them that day, so you do have to be careful.

I asked Comfort a few years ago what happens if you have a claim and you have exceeded your mileage. The answer I got was up to a 1000 miles excess goes up fromm £200 to £500 over a 1000 mile goes to £1000. Don't know if that's still current.
