2010?
Hi
We have Bailey and the electric plug for electric intake is in the awning and we would like to put ordinary electric plug there and move our electric intake to other side of van
Any ideas how much a dealer would charge for this
Thanks

You want an electric "outlet" on the outside of your motorhome?

Hi... I suspect that may cost quite a bit to have done by a dealer..
Do you have to move the original electric hook up point..
It would possibly be a cheaper job to just install an external socket and leave the hook up point where it is..
I fitted an external socket recently and think the box cost around 12/13 pounds and there was enough room to incorporate a 12v outlet on the same box..
If the new external outlet box fitted the ehu inlet hole that was left if you removed it to fit on the other side I suppose that would help..
A couple pictures of the outlet I fitted...

many many years! since I was a kid
a dealer will charge way over the odds for such a simple job £100-200, but the outlet is under £15 plus about 4m of 2.5mm 3 core cable. you can reuse the original inlet on the other side. about an hours labour, maybe 1 1/2 cost depends who you use

if you dont feel able to do the job, a mobile caravan technician will likely be the cheapest and best ways to get it done

I cant find it now but am sure I have seen an adaptor that fits into the inlet point giving you a 240V outlet

Can't really see why you would need to move it myself

Hi David. . If you do that where do you get 240v from to power the socket.??
Edit... lol you are talking an additional fitting on themains inlet...

What sort of socket do you want?
On behalf of the shy members of the NMC, I have to ask why you want to do this?
I'm sure its feasible but ensure its "weatherproof" (ip44?)

We have EHU on on near side of van, we want to move that to off side and put the electric Point in place if it??
It's cuz it's a Nusance in the awning and we want electric in awning so thought this might be answer

I am trying to find what I thought I had seen, but have been on the red for a while now :)

I am sure you can get an adaptor to plug either in line or into the normal connector on side of MH

but technically a 2 or three way adaptor would do it, then a short extension to the MH

provided it is inside your awning, some combination like this should work :)(y)

Several years now
Does having the EHU in the awning bit cause you problems so much that you want that out of the way ?

I'm guessing here, but do you want a household 240v socket under the awning area to plug an appliance with a square pin plug into ?

Unless you have a manky big battery bank feeding a manky big inverter then you'll only get 240v out of your skt when your on hook up, so I'd suggest the simplest way is some sort of splitter box off your 240v EHU input cable to supply whichever type of socket you require. BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO WATERPROOFING OF WHICHEVER SPLITTER YOU GO FOR.

I sympathise with the op. It would drive us mad if the ehu socket was on the awning side. Nightmare!
It's going to be easy to move it though and having an electrical socket on your awning side will be very usefull.

I've just made up a short EHU lead for when our van is in storage. On the female 3 pin socket that connects to the van there is Shuko socket on the back, would something like that help you ?

Or just feed the cable under the m/h avoiding the awning and have an adapter

Here is my solution, no need to cut any holes in your motorhome and easily transferable, just simply unplug hookup lead from motorhome inlet, plug into adapter and plug adapter into motorhome inlet and suction cup double adapter to side of motorhome (y)

That's the way I would do it
Nice and simple only thing I would do is have an rcd on the 3 pin outlet just in case. I know the ehu has one but belt and braces :)

:ROFLMAO: Seems a great way to get electrocuted

Your relying 100% on the supply being safe. On modern sites when things are inspected/checked regularly it would be OK many sites, often abroad, it would be dangerous

I sadly have seen many electrical setups where the trips have been bypassed, presumably by campers wanting unlimited power

We've even turfed off a bloke from our campsite for trying to change a MCB

He wanted a 32 amp one fitted, and tried to give me a "drink" to swap one over when I was repairing an adjacent power bollard that had been 'run over' that morning

I refused and told the wardens to keep an eye on him, and surprise surprise, a check a couple of days later he nobbled our system
