Broken most bits now
Not motorhome related (yet) but has anybody fitted the infrared ceiling panel heaters in their home and are they any good. Thinking of this sort of thing in a house I'm restoring.

I cant really see the point in them. This sort of thing has been around for years and never really caught on. Good old convected heat has got to be the best. You don't get anything for nothing. If you have an 800w one of these, you will get 800w of heat. Yes it might make you feel warmer (like the glow of a fire) but you still only have 800w going into the room.

The spiel makes them sound very efficient but that's marketing. Just wondered if anybody had tried them out

I have a 2 kW panel heater and a 2 kW oil filled rad,,both cost the same to run and both give out the same heat..The panel heater was half the price of the oil filled. As previous post says a kW is a kW.. BUSBY.

And the minute you switch it off the heat is gone

Its always down to the wattage no matter what they say about efficiency's
An 800w heater is exactly the same as any other 800w heater and that's really not very powerful.
I would need at least three of them to heat my average size living room
They look tidy but at a premium price.

Ok for workshops etc where you just need to be warm while you are in them. They don,t really warm the fabric of the building

Why would you want a panel heater mounted 50mm from the ceiling when heat rises? They claim 90% efficiency any normal electric heater is 100% efficient. Snake oil comes to mind.

I think they're a smart idea in some situations. I think they're being used quite a bit in churches ( I must say I tend to never visit them if I can help it). As others have said electric heaters are generally all 100% efficient however where they place the heat varies. The idea with a radiant heater is the infra red travels to the surface it is absorbed by and thats where the heat is released. In a building with high cielings it saves heating the huge volume of air before heat reaches the lower levels. Its a bit like using a microwave rather than a conventional oven

Air conditioner/ heat pump. Sitting here with (without looking at the spec) 3kw heat out for every 1 in.
Not too ugly inside blowing warm air around but the condenser outside needs to be out of sight.
