Yeah, he got a bit freaky and weird that last few years. Lot's suspected he had mental health issues. The tax issue I think was part of him trying to avoid being tracked by the US government.

All very sad, as he was a genuinely intelligent man. Sad news.

Sold to Intel about a decade ago.

I was more of a Norton fan. But 20 years ago moved to Linux so not had to worry about things like that in a long time.

I did hear this during the night on LBC. It is a real shame when someone relies on substances to get through a life that had become so difficult. RIP John McAfee.

It was the bane of the IT department I was working for. It seemed to be indifferent about settings telling to to keep it's resource use low or only scan and update at certain times. So it would completely overload a servers for half an hour at a time and take down operations. The 'admin' security that was supposed to prevent desktop/laptop users from playing with settings was a joke. Which would be fine if it actually did its job, but there were several virus incidents while I was working there.

A victim of the brutal US justice system which can send someone to prison for life for tax evasion.

Very sad, although I must admit that given some of his more "interesting" exploits over the last years, I'm surprised that it has taken this long.

I wonder if he was badly advised on his tax affairs.

There was a piece on RT Today claiming that very rich Americans have effectively obtained the US tax system they want in order to pay less than their fair share.

Whenever a new PC came with it installed the first job was to uninstall it, dreadful software.

It was good in the early days. But once Intel bought it, it suffered massively from bloat and went downhill. rapidly.

One of the better videos I have come across on youtube - he wasn't a fan of the software that bore his name!!

I had heard about that video but never watched it. Hilarious.

Never seen a company founder trash his business so bad since Ratner.

The best one that I've heard is that the US Attorney has sealed file on him containing an extradition request from Belize? for the murder of a neighbour.
