We're currently in Caceres and have put a small chip in the bottom of our windscreen
It doesn't obstruct vision and measures approx 2cm max
We"re wondering what would be the best thing to do. We know there are problems with getting Hymer windscreens replaced in Spaon, but could nip down the road into Portugal, if necessary
O H is wondering whether to put some tape on it, or to just leave it and hope it doesn"t spread.
All advice gratefully received

Have it repaired and then you can have it replaced back in the UK, when it has "cracked" further. (y)

A chip won’t run without it shows some splinter, it is possible to repair a run ie: a split in the glass in a line but chips with space missing are much more of a problem ,additionally,if they are not directly within your view which yours is not it isn’t illegal and would pass the MOT so I doubt the Insurance Company would pay out.

Leave it in the hope it runs and you might have a chance.

Have a word with dabhand, his screen is held together with superglue, sellotape, gaffer tape and wire probably by now.
Only about three inches longer now Ken, ps Bill joined the club only his is smaller than mine!

We could not get ours replaced on ourExsis two years ago and insurance (then Comfort) told us we would need to wait until our return to UK
Apparently Cara Glass will not touch A class screens and I don’t think Portugal is any better?

Don’t worry about it, wash it and wipe with paper, put superglue on it cover it with tape, cello or gaffer, and relax till you get home! (y)

Thanks for all the replies. There are three windscreen places in Caceress, so I think we'll go and see if they'll repair it. If not, we'll tape it and keep our fingers crossed until we get home.
That could be months away, yet if they close the borders ?

When in Spain (Fuengirola) a few years ago my insurance company advised that they would not pay for a repair but if it broke they would pay to replace it. I visited Car Glass to be told they could try to repair it at my risk. That is if they broke it when trying to fix it I would have to pay for a new one.

No brainer for me. I waited until back in UK then had it replaced on insurance.

Incidentally Simon we are back at Fuengirola rustic.

Keep off the horses Malcolm, you’ll only get a sore bum, love to Catherine and stay well.

Pop into an Auto accessory shop and get a DIY repair kit they work well. My screen has about 5 chips in it. One is 22mm long in the drivers line of vision I checked that it should be OK on an MOT. Don't want to get an A Class screen replaced unless I really have to.

I've repaired chips and a crack in our Hymer windscreen with one of these kits which I now carry with me:

Easy enough to use and best done when the chip is fresh for the best results.
The resin is UV activated, so I just apply under the shade of an umbrella then let the sun at it.
