How easy is it to buy in in (northern) Spain

A) butane gas cylinders of this type (used for small, portable camping stove)?

Can I find these in a supermarket (which chain)? and

B) methylated spirits (meths). The latter we buy in Germany (dM chain) for 1.75 Euros, I think it is, a liter. In England we found the cost ridiculously high.

You have the filter it through a sock before it is drinkable, (Or so I`ve been told)

The gas cans are sold in quite a few places so no problem with those, try any ferreteria or Chinese shop

Meths is fairly easy to obtain in most of Europe, we have bought in Spain before, you just need to find out where!

Remember meths is used as a cleaning agent and also powers bain maries in the Restaurant business, so they must get their supplies from somewhere!

Places we have bought meths include:

• Supermarkets - French Carrefor sites sell it in 5 litter plastic jerry cans. (We tend to buy 20 Litres each time)
• Industrial cleaning suppliers
• Garages, especially those with workshops
• Catering Suppliers
• Hardware shops
• Model shops (used for model steam engines!)
• Fishing shops
• Camping shops
• In the UK or Scandinavia, ask the local Scouts as they all use Meths powered Trangia Stoves

As you have found, Meths in the UK is ridiculously expensive as it's got an alcohol tax added to the price.

Depending on what you are using it to power, there are other options, such as firelighters, boot polish, Hexamine Tabs, and a sugar/antifreeze mix

It also comes in different colours, in the UK its purple, in France it's pink and the smell is different (but equally unpleasant)

It's so cheap to drink Gin in Spain,,why bother with meths? Butane is usually for sale in Spanish ferrotorears,,iron mongers

(Our cooking stove runs on meths. We carry a small butane stove as a spare.)

If they are the CP250 gas cartridges then you can get them in the camping section of Decathlon here in Spain

The DIY chain stores like Leroy Merlin, Brico Depot might be worth a try for the meths or the gas.
