Title basically sums it up, but we are in Slovakia and just now ran out of gas.

I know we can’t exchange Calor bottles out here (13kg size for reference), so I’ll need to buy a new gas bottle. A couple of questions:

Does the UK connector fit any other European countries gas bottles? I’m assuming no, which brings me to my next question:

Where can I buy an adapter to convert my UK connector to whatever new country I buy a gas bottle in?

I’m in Slovakia but close enough to Czech, or I can wait until Hungary — which country would be the best for buying a new gas bottle (and getting it to fit our connection)?

Thanks so much in advance!

I have no answer to your question but wonder if you would be better going to your nearest gas bottle retailer and seeing what they can sort you out with ?
Good luck, I'm guessing it's quite cold there at the moment.

Haha yes it’s a little freezing! But we are in the cutest town ever (picture attached!), and I have a diesel heater - so win-win! 😂 I do need the gas for the hob and oven, but we will make it for now though!

You tend to buy the gas bottle and also what is know as a “pig tail” from the same country. The pig tail is the hose that joins bottle to regulator.
Thank you! Follow up question (sorry if it’s dumb in advance haha!) - will I need to remove the current connector thing then when I get the new pig tail? Or would it attach to the current connector?

Not sure how you’d go about finding one in your area but when we were in east Germany traveling we had an empty calor 13kg propane bottle and we found a small filling depot that filled the bottle for m. We did this twice in different areas. The bottle had to be empty, she weighed it, noted the weight of the bottle from the information on the neck and filled it accordingly.
saved all the hassle of getting local bottle etc.

worth a search locally. The first one we found by asking in a Motorhome dealers the second one I found online.

Enjoy your trip, Shawn.

I've got a LHD van with German 13kg bottles but also have a UK bottle and use an adaptor for that. If you can't get sorted in Slovakia, might it be worth going into Germany, finding a camping/motorhome shop/dealership, getting an adaptor and buying a German bottle? Fritz Berger is a large chain of camping shops that carry stocks of gas bottle equipment and gas bottles.. For the gas bottle you could alternatively go to one of the large hardware stores (Obi, Martkauf etc.) I mention Germany as almost every decent size town will have a camping store or motorhome dealer of some sort. Hooray for diesel heating!

For future reference - if you are likely to do much European travel it's worth getting refillable bottles like Gaslow, or Gas IT. A little more expensive to buy but you can just fill up a garages that have LPG - which is really cheap.

Thank you so much! This definitely seems like it would be the easiest option if I can find a place. Any recommendations for what search terms to use specifically?

For adaptors and gas
You can switch to English or other languages. you can also find their stores, which is probably what you need. There is a tore locator art the top of the page take takes you to a map or you can enter a town name.

For gas. Hardware stores/Baumarkt

I'm sure there are other solutions. You've put pictures of your bottles/connectors so others may have better solutions.

That is a standard bottle top regulator anyone that sells bottles should have one.
Thanks! So just to make sure I understand, I’m asking for the attachment that can convert my bottle top regular to fit a different countries bottles, is that correct? It’s a piece that attaches onto my current connector?

No, just get a new regulator I doubt you will get an adaptor. Those tye of regulators are cheap just make sure its the same pressure your one will be either 30 or 37mb depending on the age of your van. It should say on it.

As Lenny HB says shouldn’t be too expensive. Maybe if you go to a camping/motorhome shop and show them the problem they could help. If you don’t speak German then I’ve yet to meet a German who works in a shop that doesn’t speak English!

Ask locally if there is anywhere that can fill up a bottle, there's always somewhere that can do it.

There's a place in Hungary that refilled UK amongst other bottles.

If they do yours it's a quick fix, but in the ideal world refillable bottles are the way to go, in the UK you have companies like

In Poland

Do a search in your location you might be lucky. 😎 Bob.

Did the same in Portugal. Bear of a man in a little independent gas-only filling station hoicked out the 13kg bottles like playthings, filled the empty one and topped-up the other using adaptors. I did put them back on my own though! I still have GPS co-ordinates of two sites who do this somewhere.

In Eastern Europe you can refill ANY bottle, as long as they have the adapter. Pol adapter it’s not used much in Europe.
As suggested get a regulator with the new bottle.

Carbon Zorro also trade in the U.K. as LPG SHOP and I’ve found them to be very competitive on price.

Just to reiterate, what you are looking for is a local propane bottle and a reg giving same pressure as yours. All you then need is a Jubilee clip!
Or you might be lucky and find a gas agent who will refill your existing bottle, that certainly happened to us in portugal but will depend on finding the right agent. For euro travels highly recommend a refillable bottle with external fill point
Happy travels
Mike

Do I understand correctly that the filling nozzles are not common across Europe either and you need to carry different adaptors to suit your external fill point?

Yep, as others say.... new cylinder, old adapter off the pipe, new on on or new pigtail, making sure its 37 mbar
here is a list of refillable LPG places in Slovak, I know you dont have refillables, but they do tend to have bottles etc aswell
