Spent a few weeks touring Australia and New Zealand about 10 years ago...
Morning, I'm new to this forum and to motorhoming. I did spend a few eeks in a motorhome in both Autralia and New Zealand in 2005 but I've just bought a 2013 AT Comanche. My wife and I plan to take a sabbatical for a year or so and tour Europe with our two dogs, we'll be setting off in March if we can get the house let to finance the plan.

I bought the van from White Arches in Northants and so far there is only one big problem, the fridge doesn't work. It's a Dometic RMD 8505/8555. The fault is that it doesn't cool. The lights on the control panel all indicate that it is working and I can hear the gas lighting when it is on gas, but the fins stay at the ambient temperature. It switches from 240v to gas to 12v automatically as it should but I get nothing in any of the three modes. I have a warranty from the dealer so will be in touch when they re-open in January but if anyone can think of something basic I might not have done, I'd be grateful. I'm guessing it's the thermostat.

Oh, it goes clunk when starting from cold and the garage leaks, but those faults seem pretty standard...!

Cheers

If you do a search on here you will find plenty of people with fridge problems.
How long have you left it before checking that it is cooling? We usually leave ours on overnight on EHU to cool down before a trip.
Don’t leave it on 12v unless engine running but hopefully the automatic switching takes care of that.
Hopefully your dealer will sort for you.
Wishing you good luck with your plans for travelling, lots of helpful advice on here for things such as insurance for long stays abroad.

I meant to add that they don’t work so well when it is very cold. There are winter covers that fit over the exterior vents to use when temperature is below 6 degrees C.

I have tried it with and without the covers - no joy. I've read the various threads on the subject and reckon that the thermostat is the most likely failure, I'll use the warranty rather than try taking it apart myself.

It's been parked on my drive which has a 7 degree slope but I've only had it running when I have been parked level, unless you count being on the move, but it must be designed for that...?
