Just back from a 9 week trip across Europe, not a scratch on the van, not a broken fingernail on either of us, no flue or colds and Barney the dog had a great time (he's epileptic) with no seizures or even any injuries (unusual for him).

Parked outside my house to get the van cleaned out and within 1.5 hours some TW*T has sideswiped the rear corner of the van and destroyed the bumper and the garage door frame. Then drove off without a second look back I imagine

I am so gutted...

Not much comfort but it could be worse .... a lot worse. I think you can get the paint analysed to trace the make and model of the offending vehicle but I have no idea how much that would cost and if it would be worth it. A good body shop should be able to repair the damage if you are unable to do so.

We once had a new car written off when it was parked in a supermarket car park - within 10 minutes of us collecting it. It was a company car but still heart breaking to see the damage - and then later to realise we and the children could have been inside.

Sadly not!

I'm thinking it was a delivery van as there are no red vehicles in my street, so asking the neighbours if they have had any deliveries today. From the angle of the damage and scrapes, they pulled into the space behind the van (no shortage of space) and misjudged the closeness of the van.

Police report made so see where that goes.

Pretty significant damage and a warranted van so won't be attempting the repair myself.

Just really disappointing!

You say not when parked.. but my dash cam comes to life when i enter the MH (ie. the MH home moves)... just thinking if yours did the same you would have recorded the culprit driving away
No, it doesn't work when the ignition is off. I believe it can be set that way but it is not currently. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Really hope the culprit is found. Such a shame after your lovely trip, to have that happen at your home.

I know it's no consolation but it doesn't look like an expensive repair. Wouldn't have thought it worth the hassle doing the search and prosecute/claim thing. Still a bummer though through a cowered not having the b---s to knock and explain.

My thoughts too, ring your local sorting off and see if there was a delivery at the appropriate time....
I'm gutted for you Ian. Although the damage doesn't look a lot its your pride & joy.Keep an eye out today for royal mail van & have a quick look for damage. FYI I think Hogarth coachworks at Birtley are authorised motorhome repairers.
good luck.
kev.

Thanks Kev.

Yes, been on the lookout for vans and will have the Police (they are chasing a crash report) check with RM for any incidents to their vans.

Getting an estimate today at Northeast Motorhome Repair Centre at Durham (recommended by TVM) and probably another from Northeast Caravans in Bedlington (my storage yard owners). TVM couldn't entertain repairs until January?

The damage is quite significant though it may not show on the photos. The garage door frame is crushed and buckled, the door is damaged, the bumper is actually fractured at the side and around the rear, the wall seal (that goes from the lower valance and up around the entire wall) is buckled and damaged, and of course, the marker light is caved in!

I'll see what comes out of it today.

I really feel for you matey, after a great trip with no mishaps until this happened I would be fuming! Try your neighbours for names of delivery vans in your road Good luck
