Thinking of visiting tomorrow but there does not seem to be many options to stay, anyone visited before can reccomed aire to stay at with easy reach of city?

We actually stayed at Nantes Camping, which suited us at that time. However, they had an aire they own, literally just outside their site, under trees and looked good, ille de machines, is great by the way

as above (x2) - use the 'boris bikes' to cycle to the cathedral and then take a trip on the little train to see the city, they will provide a guide in english you can read, so you can follow their commentary.

also their are some mechanical animals that you can operate yourself in the town square at La Roche Sur Yon -

I second the recommendation for the location of Nantes Camping, except that we used the CampingCar Park aire next to it, the tram service into the centre is great, about half an hour on a bike. I also second the recommendations for les Machines - inspired.

Thanks all, its a CCP aire which may get booked up but will try to get there early.

Nantes camping is well situated for your visit with tram right outside the site.

If you go into the campsite reception you should be able to buy a well priced 24 hour ticket for the trams. The time starts from when you first use the ticket and includes free use of the shuttle boat across the river to the quirky & colourful little village of Trentemoult.

Managed to get on the Aire, not the best but a lot less than €37 in the site.

That is expensive for a French site. No help to you this time but the ACSI rate of 22 euros starts on the 29th August.& they usually sell the guide and card in the reception.

There are lots of park ups in the area around Nantes if you didnt mind using the train to get into Nantes - There is a free one the centre of Challans for example. about 15 min walk to the station - but i suppose the convenience of being in Nantes itself might be worth paying for?

Probably by time you pay the train fare it works out the same or cheaper to stay on the aire

Yes it was brilliant, the giant elephant was amazing.
