Which base vehicle would you chose.

Its a damp and misty day here in Lancashire and I have been reading "The long and whining road" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17285231-the-long-and-whining-road,

My first thought is, what base vehicle would you chose. V Dubs are ubiquitous in Europe, but what about elsewhere, maybe a Toyota or a Ford.

Anyway if you had to be sat by the road, surrounded by a pool of oil, what vehicle would you want to have that could be fixed easy. And supplemental question, which vehicle would be least likely to leave you "sat by the road, surrounded by a pool of oil"

A Landy Defender with a 300Tdi engine.

Nothing else comes close.(y)

Here's the front of my Landy and as you can see from the picture it doesn't take much to do some roadside repairs.

I've never not owned a Defender since I passed my test in one aged 17. No bigger fan in the world. Would I go around the world in one, not a chance. :D

They’ve improved from the Series 1’s now :whistle:

As the Australians say" if you want to go into the desert use a Landrover if you want to go and come back again use a Toyota! "
:D

Yep, a fair point indeed.

I say that because there are 100,000 Taliban fighters who use the Toyota Landcruiser and they can't all be wrong.:D

I know what you are saying. I tried a Tdci for a while, then returned to the Td5.

Was more taking the wee about age :xThumb:

Been thinking about it and you're right. I agree, I would probably choose a 300tdi to go around the world in as well. Except I'd want it in a Discovery (y)

I am collecting a brand new shiny Toyota Land Cruiser Invincible this afternoon, as we had a mishap with the last one :xlaugh:

It will be our sixth Land Cruiser and I wouldn't want anything else. I did try the AMG V8 Merc, crap gearbox, appalling Company and after 18 months went running back to Toyota!

Five year warranty and sold in 197 Countries

We nave two friend's who did it twice, in a V8 Discovery, also did up and down America, plus Europe/Africa.

Silly question?
Where do you fit the toilet/shower and the comfy bed in a land rover ?

Done it a few times in a Boeing 757, full of rich Americans.
Few problems but nothing stopped the trips.

Just out of curiosity what was the vehicle that you recovered most?

Toyota Hilux !! mostly because they were usually overloaded , and abused, also there were a lot of them , the most for the few there were of them it was Jeep . Then there were the crashed hire cars driven by Japanese tourists when they went on dirt roads

Yes I used to have a mitsubishis Delica starwagon. You know you have something reliable & robust when you see them on the news being used as mobile for machine guns & rocket launchers.:xrofl:
