Our neighbour had their van broken into in Leon, France.

Lost a shed load of stuff but no iPad's or £2000 in cash. Did not wake up with a gas induced hangover.

But lost passports, bank card's etc.

The only evidence - look below

its a well known weakness and you can buy stainless steel plates to prevent it and repair/cover the damage

I'm ordering dead locks for my van next week.

Now I'm wondering if it's worth adding the pro-plates as well?

I considered doing both. But I decided against it. My logic being if the deadlocks don't dissuade them then the plate won't.

That makes good sense to me. I'll do the same :)

Also fitting window security film, but this is more in case someone smashes a window before seeing my lazy ar#e (but very effective once awake) dog. Don't want him sitting in broken glass.

Do you need to buy the ProPlate for both driver and passenger door, for the ducato? Even with the passenger door not having a keyhole.

Thanks :)

obviously a dirty builder's van in the video but still roughly handled by the fitter who should of worn gloves and changed them before refitting the door fittings. loads of unnecessary dirty marks and scratches

If you have Remis blinds fitted to the door then they have to come off as well.

The Fiat and Peugeot Boxer are the same door trim as the Citroen Relay.
I would not let the guy in the video anywhere near my van, he's an animal !!!

Can I ask why people aren't just fitting dead locks?
No idea. I swear by deadlocks on the basis that thieves are absolute cowardly tw@s

They want to be able to get away quickly... So if they have to smash a window and climb in risking getting trapped by a returning owner they will move onto the next van.

The only thing a deadlock won't protect you from is if you stupidly leave anything of value within reach of a smashed window. Then it doesn't matter what security you have.

I see on eBay that the would be thief can now buy a lock decoder/pick for the Ducato, Boxer and Relay's. Looks like time to fit dead locks as well or are they a doodle to pick as well ?

And can I ask why manufacturers don’t fit them as standard?

Some do (mine has them as standard), but I doubt as good as a separate after market version.

I guess also it's not always desirable for courier companies etc, would make it more difficult if keys are lost?

A better question would be, why are vans (especially some) so easy to break into with a screwdriver?

That looks neat although isn't there a risk that thieves wouldn't notice them until they had created quite a lot of damage ? also I assume you have to lock both cab doors from the inside them exit through the hab door ?

Presumably if these dead locks can only be operated from inside you exit and enter through habitation door, then what. I'm not aware of external locking systems for habitation doors so what's the real value of dead locks when leaving vehicle unattended.

The deadlocks I use are only lockable from the outside.. I am in a PVC so I have deadlocks on driver/passenger/sliding door.
When I am in all are deadlocked except the sliding door but that is right next to my bed/seat area. I did have a security chain on it at one point.
When I leave the van unattended it is all fully deadlocked.

Thanks for that, read your earlier post but failed to properly read the link.
