It does not get better than The Paddock for an immaculate CL off the beaten track so quiet and peaceful yet with superb views. Perfect for cyclists.

Looks nice Brian,

is that the one near the osprey centre?

Andy

Sorry I don't know. It's within walking distance of Manton on the south shore. Right opposite on the hill is Burley House.

So on the same side as Lyndon Top?, near the garden centre or nearer Manton?

Fitted a large kitchen in the manor house in Manton years ago

Thanks Brian ... when Flora met at Rutland Water ..we were looking across at the mansion and wondering what it was. Now you have given us the name I have been able to look it up. :)

Brian if it's the one just a little up the lane from Lyndon Top then a walk down that lane will take you to the Osprey centre, check Lynton Top out while your there if you haven't already, nice cycle ride to Edith Weston as well. x

Nice looking location, do CS's not have the same 5 van limit as I thought CL's have?

Does make a nonsense though when you have so much space, but presumably you need more permission to take more (officially)

We did that but missed the Osprey Centre. We were there only one night, the weather was about to break so we thought better to return when the good weather arrives, if ever.

Yes in theory they do.

A lot of them, especially farmers, don't take much notice of that rule though just like they don't take any notice of the members only rule. Telling a farmer he has to obey someone else's rules is usually an exercise in futility.

I know of a CC CL in Cambridgeshire where the owner doesn't care at all. As long as you cross his palm with a crisp tenner you're welcome to stay, he doesn't give a monkeys about checking membership cards, and once the "official" 5 van CL is full up he puts people in the field next to it.

Lyndon Top is great. We love it there.

Sorry I don't know. It's within walking distance of Manton on the south shore.

If you walk the other direction using the footpath along the lake shore then you're also within walking distance, although a bit further, of the next village which is Edith Weston. There's a pub there called the Wheatsheaf which is also pretty good. It's about 2 1/2 miles from where you are and the path is pretty flat.

I think that the large manor house on the opposite bank to Manton ,is called Hambleton hall ,its a £700.00 a night flop house , we stayed there for one weekend just before we got the Moho ,when we camped at Lyndon top it was quite amusing to us that we were getting the same view for £7.00 a night as you say its great for cycling in that area (y)
