I’ve taken the air-con out of the van and need ideas on what to cover the hole with or to disguise it, I will be filling it with expanding foam and cover with ply so it will be the same level as the ceiling, the hole is around 400x400 so need something a little larger.
A ceiling light is about a foot away so don’t need a light there. The van/ceiling is covered in this sponge backed vinyl and I don’t like it so will probably rip it out and replace in the future.. but I need to do something for now ( a few years )

Edit: air-con came out because solar panels are going on the roof….

Surely the simplest is to fit a rooflight, most are 400x400 and imagine thats what may have been in that hole before maybe.

You can get types of perspex that when heated it would mould and form over any roof ribs etc to enable a better seal......probs a major PITA to do like!

Maybe a piece of cardboard painted with your favourite view and stuck on with blutack as a temporary fix.

I would consider something totally contrasting to the current roof covering and just attach a piece of ply covered in the contrasting fabric/material. Perhaps that matches or picks out a colour from the seating, backsplash, carpets?

Cut the ply into a fancy curved shape so that it looks intentional, even space it off slightly from the roof and then mount some LEDs/lighting strip between it and the ceiling or mount some LEDs utilising the void where the air con was?

exactly what I was going to suggest. 2 pieces of ply, the lower one slightly bigger. Run LED tape round the one nearest the ceiling and put an edge on the lower one. Make it a feature, don't try and hide it
