Hi tecy help please
I have a 3000 pure sine wave inverter/ 2 x 110 batteries and solar. looking at getting an ice maker (why do French supermarkets not sell ice)
would i be able to run this 150 watts machine

I dont see why not. At worst it will probably pull 15A which for say 10mins would only be about 3Ah out of your batteries. Even a 100w panel would replace this in an hour if the sun shone. I think the 6 mins stated time would give enough ice for a couple of drinks.

Let us all know how well it works, there is never room for ice in our freezer as SWMBO fills it with food.

Most French and Spanish supermarkets sell ice cubes in big plastic bags.
They did last time I looked.
please detail them as we visit France 3 times a year and i can count the number of times we have seen bags of ice in super markets on one hand ;) we have tried Aldi, super U, Intermache, Leclerc, carrefore and uncle tom cobbly and all

We usually go to Lidls in France and Spain but only really pass through France and can't remember if they have them or just Spain.

In answer to your question, absolutely!

I bought an ice-maker of similar rating for the boat last year, but it simply would not start with the 300w inverter that I had at the time. I originally thought it was down to voltage-drop, but eventually cured the issue by replacing the inverter with a 1000w one, as the compressor takes far, far more than 180w for an instant when it originally kicks in.

The 1kW inverter did the trick and G&Ts with lots of ice were the welcome reward! Your 3kW inverter will see you supplying the whole campsite.

Looks like the ice maker we use. Used it in the van (HU only) and at home.
From start up it produces the first 6 cubes it 6 mins and then another 6 every 5-7 mins depending on ambient and water temp.
To fill the ice cradle inside takes about an hour. It is noticeably slower on very hot days.
Depending on factors like ambient temp and the temp of the gin-tonic etc, I might just keep up if 2 of you are on a session.

You would need a couple of hundred watts of solar and a clear sunny day to keep the batteries topped up.
It is a great machine. Best bit of kit I own during lockdown

Did you ask? We used to buy ice in Spanish supermarkets for the ferry back when we toured on the Harley. Also in France. Now we just put a tray in the freezer

We just use the self fill ice bags. They lie flat in the ice box, and we've only got a small ice box. Not much room for very much food - couple of burgers, couple of chops and that's about it!

We have an ice maker, that we use at home takes ages for poor result. At least an hour to get from ambient to freezing with the compressor running constantly. I would say the 6 minutes quoted will be once the compressor has made the temp freezing.

I would say the 6 minutes quoted

I assume you are referring to the 6 minutes I quoted as I cant see ant other times in the thread.
The machine will make ice in 6 minutes from switch on.
As I said, it depends on many factors but the ice in the photo took 8:03 from plug in with water that had been in there since yesterday so we can assume it would be at around 23-25C.
This unit pours water over cooled prongs and makes the cubes like staletytes (sp?) rather than trying to freeze a lot of water.
If the water had come out of the tap ar around 10C it would have made the ice in 6 minutes easy.

I gave up asking in France . Never found any anywhere. Once I asked to be told ,yes we have them but they've all been sold??

With these it’s literally 6 mins for the first batch of ice to be delivered, from switch-on. It’s a clever bit of kit.

On hot days any small ice maker will work better if you put a fan behind it. We run this KB15 ice maker on a 1500w pure sine inverter. Three years old, cost around 150 quid which is alot of lidls ice cubes. We regularly clean it with milton and throw away the cubes, as opposed to constantly reusing the same water. Good luck.

Our Norcold fridge freezer has an ice maker in it. Excellent but then it’s an American RV and only the Very old-mo Type FellaPerson would understand. :gum:
