I thought I'd better get myself down to the local scrappy and weigh the van. 75% fuel, would of filled up but no diesel at the moment locally, 25% water, no waste water, 2x6kg full gas, the dog, loaded apart from the wife, food, booze and clothes.
Ticket says:
Total 3860kg
Front Axle 1800kg
Rear Axle 2060kg
So I would appear to be under weight but once I have added the wife ( I'm not that brave to finish the sentence there!! ) and provisions, do I need to be worrying, should I be considering semi air at the rear? I don't want the expense of air but also don't want to be stressing every time we load the van.
Opinions would be gratefully received.

Just an update.
I filled out the SV Tech form and sent it off, they have replied and said I would need air to get it to 4500kg but not if I go to 4250kg.
So i reckon that going to 4250kg, will give me a couple of hundred extra kg's and cost £260+Vat. If I go for the 4500kg, I've still go to pay for their services plus the cost of air, will I really need all that extra payload?
SV Tech can be a odd at times there is no reason you can't go to 4500 without any mod but your rear axle will be limited to 2400.
Unless when fully loaded you are likely to go over 2400 on the rear (I don't think you will) its not really worth spending £2k on semi-air for 100kg unless you want it for improved ride quality.

Talk to Van Weight Engineering...
Looks like you could easily up-plate to 4500Kg (2100 + 2400)?
But your rear axle will still be limited to 2400Kg. Paperwork exercise via VanWeightEngineering or SVTech etc.... They will advise this for certain if you need any additoonal air etc... Maybe just uprating your tyres to higher load.

i get where you coming from i don't want to worry to much about the weight and it was 3.5-ton max .so had it taken up to 4 tons as I knew I was close even, with 20 litres of water.. So i loaded up ready for the first trip and went to the public weighbridge and was full diesel ...full water ( will only travel with minimum 20 litres) and yaaay i was 400kg under and axle weights were well in. The semi Air has really made a difference to the handling on 2.7 bar. along with new continental tyres.. it's now much smoother rather than being on a roller coaster Shaking us apart on every little bump plus cheaper tax too as moved to PHGV.

Weighed mine full in full fuel and water tank and ready to go including passenger's and I was 3400 so updated to 3500 now just in case.

Its running 225/75/16 CP tyres already.

At the moment the rear axle has 340kg to play with anyway, so up-plating might be a cheaper alternative?

I'm sure it's worth the savings in road tax going above the 3.5 tonnes but remember there are many more restrictions above 3.5 tonnes. Especially in Europe and most especially in France.

With the other half on board, you've not got a lot of spare capacity left. A week of cloths, food and booze will put you on the limit, especially if you fill up with diesel. You can probably survive if you don't carry water. And be really careful about putting 'one more thing' / 'might be handy' stuff in the garage.

Safest thing to do though is to probably get it uprated.

Fitting semi air to the rear is not going to help as you have 340kg spare on the rear but overall you only have 140kg spare.

By the time you have added the wife full water and fuel tanks plus food, beer & wine you will be over.

You could uprate to 4500kg without any mods just a paper exercise then you would be able to make full use of the 340kg spare on the rear.

Talk to Van Weight Engineering you will probably get a more realistic result.
