.....a Funster. If he is I hope never to meet him on the road again, ever.
The idiot in question, a gentleman with grey hair and wearing a red check shirt, was driving north up the M11 earlier today in a 68 plate Pilote A Class when arriving behind me in my car decided me and the bunch of vehicles in all three lanes weren’t travelling fast enough for him.
With flashing of lights, sounding of horn and waving of arms he indicated he believed the 70(ish, we were all pushing the upper limit of any assumed margin) was not appropriate and I should move over and let him pass. All lanes being full there was no option for me to get out of his way, he then decided to do the same to the Ford in lane two, cutting very close as he changed lane. Again no joy so he slipped back out of my view.
Next thing of note is a great blast of air horns from a truck in lane 1 and the very same motorhome pulls off the hard shoulder into the space in front of the truck! Why he thought he was entitled to use the hard shoulder I just can’t imagine. He then cut into lane 2 causing more horns and vicious braking and then into lane 3, again with lights and horns trying to move folk out of his way. As the bunching eased he could be seen moving away fast as we approached the Stansted junction.

This moron has singlehandedly managed to give us a bad name with everyone who saw such reckless driving. I really hope someone has this on dash cam and makes it public as I would dearly love to see the whole registration number and expose such stupidity.
Rant over.

Whilst I don't condone his actions there must have been an urgent reason/emergency for him to do that otherwise I can't see anyone doing that in a MH unnecessarily.

Stolen? and trying to get as far away as possible, on false plates so can do what he likes
Maybe but he'd then be very, very silly to draw such a lot of attention to himself and run the risk of being pulled over.

That was me, (y)
Im the MHF driving instructor for newbies, had you been on my previous Motorway awareness course you would have been aware of the 7 Motor Homes following my every move.
6 drivers passed the test and one failed for hesitating at a lorries Air Horn

I watched a guy do this to a car that was driving steadily at the legal limit in the fast lane. He accelerated up to a few inches behind the car, and then dropped back several times. The driver in front had a thick neck, and I watched it start to redden. He then reached over and put on his flat police hat. He indicated that the car behind should pu;ll over, and as I passed I noticed the sergeant's stripes. I would have loved to hear the resulting conversation. :)

That was my first thought too.

But you aren't allowed to drive in the fast lane surely, its purely for overtaking.

You know, I used to think exactly the same..
Until one day Maureen had an accident and had to be rushed ( and I do mean rushed ! ) to hospital
Since then I just think how I drove that day, and what if something similar has happened to the other driver ?

Yes, we all know it is wrong. we all know it is dangerous and there is absolutely NO excuse, but it is worth remembering next time that they just might have a reason for driving like a loony with just ONE thing on their mind.. got to get there as fast as possible

Nowadays when someone comes up behind me like that I do what I can to get out of the way..
Apart from anything else it is far and away less stressful on me :-)

Probably a young motorhome salesman returning from a show somewhere.
Seen em going to shows in convoy, speed limits don't apply.

They do it in cars daily.

It isn't a 'fast lane' What was he doing "driving steadily in it? Farhest lane to the left.

Exactly.

I’m not condoning the driving described by the OP but it reminded me of my experience many years ago.

While staying at a camp site in Chigwell my daughter suffered a head injury in the swimmers no pool.

The ambulance service attended and decided she had to be rushed to A&E. My wife, in her swimsuit , jumped in the ambulance while I, also in just a swimsuit, got our car.

The ambulance driver told me we were heading for Whips Cross hospital, which meant nothing to me. I followed them, who were on blue lights, exceeding speed limits and crossing red lights, (and yes, I do know that was illegal in my case.)

It was only later that I realised other drivers must have thought that they had seen a maniac, crashing red lights while naked, (wouldn’t have seen the swim suit).

There are usually two sides to every story.

And yes, my daughter recovered OK although my wife and I spent several hours huddled together in borrowed hospital gowns to hide our modesty!

Look at my avatar I don’t own such a new posh MH

Come on own up who wears a Red check shirt? Only Jocks!!!??‍? with their tartan kilt. No Jocks were hurt in the posting of this thread?

That level of agressiveness should have rung alarm bells, I would have moved over and let him pass. You cannot know what the guy was dealing with, the responsible and polite thing to do was to give him the benefit of the doubt, get out of his way and hope he calmed down, and was able to do whatever he needed to do. Winding people up on motorways is inexcuseable, he obviously didn't need that and it made him take even more aggravated chances.
Letting him pass, what would that have cost you?

Sounds like a reasonable maneuver to me, why was everyone getting so upset ;)(y)

Sounds like a poor driver, obviously got some reason for driving like a tw4t
Ive seen lots of awful driving in the past, and I will see lots of awful driving in the future, but I won't let it worry me. I just slow down, let them get on with it, and carry on.
Is may be just a British thing, but it's not my job to police other peoples behaviour.

Or he was just a selfish pr#ck thinking he owns the road and he’s entitled to drive any way that suits him including endangering the lives of others. There’s absolutely no justification for this kind of driving. Hopefully someone else either got him on dash cam and reported it or phoned the police with his registration.

The most sensible, safe and right thing to do is concentrate and worry only about ones own driving
That will make us all better and safer drivers
But what if you drive like him and believe you’re in the right as this type of driver invariably does?

Of course it doesn’t.

We are all individuals and, as such, are responsible for our own actions - not those of others.

We may be responsible for our actions but others will tar us with the same brush and can often be judged by the behaviours of others doing the same activities as us.

I really doubt if the vast majority of people would care about the activities of one motorhomer! 'Joe Public' tend to call them 'caravan's anyway! :D

OK... I could respond with ‘of course it does’ but I appreciate your opinion is as valid as mine and I’m happy to agree to disagree, otherwise this thread will disintegrate in to one of the many futile ‘seasonal’ disagreements we have seen of late.

I see pantomime season has started ... it's behind you both .....! ?
