My beautiful "Rapido" that is...

Sent off for renewal of my license....

And decided not to do the medical and eye test.... probably would have past both but thought we were giving up...

So was not bothered about the C1ofE...

Sent no money just my old license (Cut in half as asked by the DVLA) and a duly filled in form...

Just got my new one back...

And still got all my entitlements...

Should I inform them of their cock up..????

After the speed in which my licence and passport were returned, I think they are checking fewer of them. After all the flack the other year about delays, I think rather than employ more staff they just check fewer licences. I was told if it says you can drive, then you can drive, after they made a mistake with mine.:)

Hi Mo

As you know Alan is the same age as you and I talked Alan into having a medical in case anything happens to me when we are abroad as I do all the driving and he may need to drive home. He decided that he wanted some new glasses and booked an eye test at local optician.
Optician thinks he has glaucoma and
referred him to eye clinic, where the specialist said he did not have glaucoma.
He had to take a urine sample with him to hospital appointment. Sample showed blood in the urine and now he may have to have scans and cameras etc etc etc.
He passed the medical and has now retained his C1 D1 on his license. He is now on the NHS choo choo train.
We was hoping to get away as soon as his license came back, but now have to wait and wait and wait some more.
Just hoping it is just an infection and nothing more serious.
Glad you got yours back ok.

I have just applied for my renewal, but not age related.

Done it all on line and details, photo etc checked against my passport including the obligatory photo.

Will be interesting to see if I get all my entitlements on the new one as I have heard DVLA arnt shy in "dropping" things off :(

Would it affect an insurance claim if it was traced back?

Not wishing to upset the apple cart BUT Inland Revenue always say it is your responsibility to check their information and inform them if they are wrong. Some folk have had nasty bills when HMRC finally get things right. Similarly with Dept of Work & Pensions and Social Security.

I'm not sure what the implications of this situation are: if you're not intending "using" the entitlements which they've given you, it shouldn't be a problem IMO. On the other hand, IF you "accidentally" used them and something went awry, could you be prosecuted for driving without the correct licence? What do you lose by doing the right thing?

As always - your choice. gordon

Might be an idea to get the medical and the eye test done, but not send them in. At least that way nobody can suggest you are unfit in case you are stopped.

And we all know how "picky" insurance companies can be after a claim

Supposing, just supposing someone from DVLA reads this, with your avatar almost giving your address to them, searching you could be easy and you could be in trouble?
If you don't want the C1 tell them of their error?

I don't disagree, but do remember that it was their mistake, the blame rests with them

The mistake would be in using that category on the licence without first holding the required medical certificate, surely?

Insurance potentially being invalidated would be my first concern

Go on take the medical. Go to doc on wheels. They come to somewhere near to you . It is only £50. And they do both eye test and medical. And they only take 15 mins. I do mine every year. So I can keep my HGV. And I am the same age as you.
