I have a tracker but am about to change my van. What do most people do about this. I am buying from Brownhills and they fit their own trackers (they tell me) and I asked if the tracker people could visit the change over to transfer my tracker (for a mere £270!) to my new van. The lady on the phone thought it may not be convenient but she would ring back, she hasn't.

Alan, I would try to arrange for the original tracker people to do the transfer the day you pick up your van, unless of course getting a new tracker would be just as cost effective. Wonder how your dealer would react to your tracker fok coming to do the transfer if your first night is on their campsite
We foolishly did not think of having ours transferred when we changed the van, think our dealers would have been happy for it to be done on thier premises. They changed over our gaslow for the cost of a pipe which had to be replaced.

My enquiries and advice suggest its just not worth it especially if the unit has been installed on the present van for a long time..
Certainly when i enquired about it the costs for changing it over were silly...over £300 and the lifetime subscription i paid when it was installed ended as well ..
Andy..

It cost us £45 for an engineer to remove our tracker and then £67 for him to move it to the new van. He also spoke with the tracker folk to ensure that everything was documented correctly as only an official engineer can.

.......plus the dreaded subscription of £149/year.

That’s seems pricey. Mine is £c55 for a year with non start from @eddievanbitz, complete with immediate texts of any movement and I can track personally straight away.

Is that a Thatcham approved tracker? If not, there are trackers that cost less than that with the same services.

It’s so approved, it actually squeaks with approvalness.
It is, I believe welcomed by all the major insurance companies.
Give @eddievanbitz a ring, it really Is the dogs whatsis
You can also monitor battery condition and various other via the app.

Van bitz website says Shadow VTS tracker subscription is
£150 per year. As I understand it the VTS system replaces the older thatchem approved trackers. Worth a read on their website

Hmm. I’ve not heard of this one. When I had nonstart fitted two years ago, with Eddie,it was with company called meta-trac. With their system the police are not involved immediately, you get notified by text that sn event has occurred, you can then follow your van in real time on a map (google) and phone the police yourself.
Never had to use it in anger, but on the occasion I’ve forgotten to switch strikeback off and triggered the alarm I get a text message literally before I’ve stopped the alarm.
I don’t know if Eddie still offers this system.

I paid the same way and it this van goes there will be another with the FUN number going onto it, along with the tracker with its lifetime subscription, they would not know the number would go with the tracker.

Yes indeed, very pricey but here's a story which the new guys could learn from:

1. We bought a new 66-plate WaterTrail van and stupidly signed a £500 airtime contract with the dealer for the tracker. The Watertrail proved to be a crock of $h!t€ so we got rid of it a few months later. (Tracker and airtime was not able to be transferred - all monies lost).

2. Purchased a new 17-plates Pilote and as part of the insurance requirement we got the dealer to supply the tracker (@£495) and I then bought a lifetime tracker subscription of £395, thinking that we would keep the van for years to come. We then decided at the 16-month ownership point to change to a PVC. Unlike the tracker unit itself the airtime contract could not be transferred (more money lost).

3. We purchased the PVC and transferred the Thatchem approved tracker for £45 and £67 as mentioned above. I've opted for the 1-year subscription for now (£149) but if we keep the van beyond the year point then I'll add the extra £250 and convert it to the full lifetime membership.

In conclusion it has cost me £1,651 to track our motorhome(s) for 36- months.

.......talk about learning the hard way:(

Even without a tracker Sargent know where I am. In my Bolero, even if I have a problem they can diagnose it

B********s refused to allow my tracker to be moved from one van to the other on their premises. They could have fitted their own contracted tracker but at greater expense. I could have had mine removed at home, then replaced in my 'new' van after purchase but that seemed to double the price. G.A.P. the fitting agents suggested my best option was to simply buy a new tracker from Scorpion who were happy to switch my existing paid use to the new tracker.
What a palaver for such a simple task.
I would like to add that both G.A.P. and Scorpion could not have been more obliging and I am sure that B********s had good reason not to allow the exchange on their land
