Trying to sort out a trip to Greece/turkey next month. But as we have a motorhome of 3.8t I need different vignettes/tags and stickers. It's doing my head in. Why can I not get a map that shows toll Rds and these darn lez zones. I am a geographer I like maps. I am not a mathematician trying to find algorithms in long sentences like the lez is active on the A3 section of ? That's no good to me I WANT A MAP TO SHOW ME.

I feel your pain. We're off to Greece next month. Same problem.

I am also a geographer with a special interest on Cartography.

Stanfords are your saviour

If they have not got it, or cannot get it, it doesn't exist. I find Michelin large-scale maps the best readily available.

We are lucky that we have here in Katowice a shop that specialises in Maps and tourist books and gets us whatever we want in English language within 2-3 days, max a week.

I once had a friend who was senior in the MoD cartographical department and she asserted that they had every map that had ever been published in the world. She said she could get me any one, but suitably redacted of security information.

vzac where are you going in Greece? Driving down or ferry across Adriatic? Touring there or just in transit to Turkey?

Do you know Greece well, if not I may be able to help. I had a boat there for 30 years but also took our MH down in 2021 and are booked for Sept-Oct this year.

Only ever been to Corfu. We had intended to stay in turkey for a month, but due to circumstances that does not seem right at the moment. We are going the thesis....... To a vets but after that going to tour for 2 to 4 weeks so any ideas, spots to stop etc would be good, we tend to do 2 or 3 days at a site then move on wild camp in-between where it is safe. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

I do not understand the bit I have highlighted'

If you arrive in Greece before Greek (Orthodox) Easter you are unlikely to find many campsites open and maybe not until June.

However pulling up anywhere and wildcamping is easy and you are unlikely to be disturbed.

Water should not be a problem but emptying cassette could be so carry a spare.

Another map fan here. I agree, Stanfords are excellent, but also try 'The Map Shop' in Upton on Severn'

Yea I understand it should be "we are initially going to thessaloniki."
Thanks for the Intel.

Our May/June 2017 5 week trip to the Peloponnese has been the highlight of our relatively short motorhoming experience. We did find getting an overall map, like a large-scale Michelin, similar to that which we use for France, a problem, but managed using several small folding maps that we bought locally.
We found PJ’s site/posts really helpful. We found parking very easy (asking, invariably resulted in friendly permissions, even drinks offers) and we had no problems finding places to empty the cassette (lawfully) or topping up with water.
Can’t wait to return.
Have a great time!

Cheers and thanks for the encouragement
