Yesterday had to ask my dealer to relook at a boiler issue, followed advice on forum what to check as only runs on gas, he said "ahh can take a couple of days for a boiler to heat up just on electric" had the van 2 years and felt being fobbed off again, agreed to relook at it. Why do dealers feel we don't matter ?

My hearing is not as good as it was, but my sense of smell remains damn near perfect ... Produce Truma manual and point out Control Panel diagram referring tp Leccy 1 setting at 900w taking twice as long as Leccy 2 setting at1800w, but still within a couple of hours, even allowing for the vagaries of actual EHU current supply, cable lengths , and all the other factors that the knowledgeable Electrical experts on the Forum mention [obvs not me!]

A well known Hymer dealership tried telling me the fridge wasn’t designed to get to the temperature a fridge should……..

It did once they finally fixed it instead of fobbing me off.

Are you in the Arctic? I know that it takes an absolute age if you just use electric when it’s really cold outside but not overnight. He is having a laugh.

As with a great deal of retail suppliers, it's a race to the bottom. Pay the lowest possible salary and you have merely an order taker.
That is not to take away from those who do care, however unfortunately there time in the industry is limited, if overheads are not closely controlled.

Shortage of LGV drivers is an example of poor wages and conditions. In most of Europe in particular France drivers are treated as a professional.
Salaries are good, parking with facilities good.
No shortage of drivers.

I remember the phrase being used, " I want Singapore on Thames"
Well we are getting it, low wages, poor conditions and little respect.

You get what you pay for in terms of service, or not in most cases it seems

My favourite expression when faced with such nonsense is to ask to speak to his or her "Boss" and simple ask, in front of everyone if the employee is lying or simply incompetent and make the point that it has to be one, or the other so which is it?

Today everyone is employed by what olgys and isms they have written in their CV, nothing to do with knowing anything about the job.
'The figures are not as disappointing as they would seem to be on first viewing, since, when technical adjustments are made to take account of seasonal variations, the resultant deficit cannot be considered material in the context of a group turnover situation. Nonetheless, a process of hebdominal review will be instigated immediately to ensure that any for upturn is detected and actioned without delay', as I used to write in Bank reports when I had no idea why we'd missed the monthly or quarterly targets. Strangely enough, I was never challenged on this complete bovine excrement!

I've had similar,
A large caravan and motorhome dealer in the south west tried to convince me my 3 way absorption refrigerator didnt need a drain hole at the rear for defrost water? When I questioned the service manager again after he told me that Dometic had told him that no hole was required I asked him where he thought the defrost water was going... after a stunning silence... I told him....all over my bloody van floor. All of a sudden I was correct. When they corrected the issue they still cocked it up so had to have it repaired by a dometic engineer in Spain. He was aghast at the workmanship he witnessed... or the lack of it....

I know what he’s talking about!
The salesman thinks that the whole of the fresh water tank needs to be heated. That would take a couple of days with a small heating element. 🤣🤣
yes 120 litres would take a while if ever

I assume that if you heard some of these B........T remarks from your staff you would be typing their P 45 before they finished the conversation.

In 12 years of owning my MH(bought privately) I have only dealt with 3 dealers' spares depts. to fit bits myself, and also Choose Leisure, Nr. Canterbury to have an external lock fitted. Their work team seemed very competent and job done in no time from arrival, without much notice.

I also went to N&B Polch, when passing, to have a window re-sealed.

I hope my maintenance record continues along these lines without the B......T and poor workmanship some members seem to experience.

My staff aren't allowed to talk to customers until we trust them, and then the first thing that they are taught to say is "Sorry I am not sure, do you mind if I find out! if they don't know the answer.

Mind you, being old, cantankerous and semi retired I am more likely to be accused of spouting nonsense nowadays, people phone up and want something fitted, we suggest that there is a better way, and get told "Nope I'm the customer, I want it done that way" So while my guys are thinking of polite ways of saying "No" I simply suggest that they do the bloody job themselves if they are so clever! So actually, ironically, team VB try to keep me away from Face to Face conversations! Funny how the wheel turns!

If you think "they" are fobbing you off, tell 'em! If you think tiz Bulldust! tell 'em!

Never let the buggers get to think you are like the great White, and will swallow anything!

Had it here, I wanted A TV aerial fitted and 3 roof lead lights changed, on the T4, and a 2.5 metre Awning fitted, the quote was an eyewatering 4 figure sum. Made no bones about telling them to shove it! Didn't do the awning, but got the kit and did the jobby meself for well under£300

"We don't usually work on M'H s as old as yours" Well tough titty kitty ! cause I renewed the fridge and updated the Cascade Hot water system too, fitted a reversing / rear view camera too , Up yours A/hole!!

My view is the bigger the dealer the poorer the customer service.

Our local caravan and MH dealers has been around for 50yrs in the same site. Never grown too big, always willing to sell you a cupboard catch or give you free advice.

Cheers James

There you have it!!! The golden rule of selling!!
When I was selling Harley Davidsons, I lived by this rule.
My other one was, make someone happy they will tell TEN of their mates
Piss them off, they will tell a HUNDRED of them👍
Here endeth the lesson!

Fab, I must remember that one 👍

I still can't believe people think the dealers give a $h1t once they have sold you anything. Rant to be continued..
