I posted last week about a flash update you needed to install.

It turns out that All versions of Windows are vulnerable to a new exploit which is active. The only exceptions are if
1) You are running Window 10 AND the edge browser.
2) You have updated Flash or don't have Flash installed.

Please note. If you are on Windows and use firefox or chrome you are still not protected.

Update or remove flash from your system now.

My personal recommendation is you remove flash. Then use Chrome if a page requires flash.

I'm confused ( nothing new there!)

If I ask Cortana to find Flash on my laptop, it comes up with Flash Player Settings on the Control Panel but the 'updates' tab is greyed-out.

Flash isn't listed on my Programmes to uninstall it.

Do I have it or not, do you think?

YEs but they share some of the same foundations. Update it or remove it also would be my best guess.

Sorry can't advise directly as I run neither windows nor any Adobe software.

My guess is you don't have it installed. But why you have the flash player settings leaves me a little confused as I believe that is part of Flash??????

I removed it a while back after getting advice on here amongst other places, I seem to remember @scotjimland commenting and doing the same.

If everybody removes this, what is it there for in the first place....is it not necessary?

It is mainly used by old fashioned web developers who can't be arsed to learn how to use HTML5, JQuery etc.
The other uses are for flash games and adverts.

But the primary user these days are malware and hackers :p

Sites like youtube have moved over to HTML5.
