So there I was, drilling a 1 mm pilot hole by hand in a wooden pole........... go to remove the drill bit............... too much effort required..............BOOM!

I stab the drill bit right through my left thumb :mad::mad::mad::eek::eek: !!!

I now have a lovely hole in my thumb 1mm diameter by about 1 inch deep..........:cry::cry:

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest

I hate to be pedantic but it probably isn't a 1mm hole. Drill bits rarely bore/cut to their stated diameter. Probably just a tad oversize.:(

I knew I could make you feel better;).

My good deed for the day complete!

I might have been mistaken about the size of the drill bit...

I think it was maybe half inch diameter! (it bl*&dy felt like it!)

Drilling a length of timber, freestyle.

Wood over leg for support, 10mm drill through wood into leg.

Doesnt so much drill flesh as grab, twist and tear.....agony for weeks afterwards.

the best one I have seen is two joiners working on a stud wall one holding the wood in place and the other with the drill drilled right through the hand

many many years! since I was a kid
I am cringing at the thought of all these incidents of bodily damage. have had a few minor injuries over the years being careless with power tools. my worst though was treading on a piece of wood with a 4 inch nail it it. went straight through my boot and foot and out the top. i jumped as it happened and got a smaller nail in the other foot. the timber had been dropped into a dark alley by a roofer trying to save time

my foot still hurts many years on when it gets cold

some years ago,i was drilling a 6mm hole in a piece of 10mm flat bar, while holding it in my right hand, the drill bit snapped, and the remaining bit of drill went into my wrist to a depth of 20mm,lot of blood but no lasting damage, just a scar and a indentation where it went in:giggle:

I'm just trying to think what accessory you could attach to that hole.....

Any chance you could tap it as well ?

just be thankful it wasn't a nail gun
I did that. Utter stupidity - the safety kept sticking so I flicked it with my thumb (whilst operating the trigger!!). The 2" nail went in, through the bone, and out the other side thus burying the head. TBH it was more embarrassing than painful but it took local anaesthetic & a surgeon to push it back through.
