At the Peterborough show I bought a pair of shoes. I do not like buying shoes but these were a real bargain and they fitted perfectly.
Everything was good, the look, the fit and the £5 a pair including a cardboard box; a bargain!
On Sunday morning, the day after I bought them, I just had to wear them, although the grass was a little damp but glancing down I noticed a little patch of yellow but no worries, a wire brush soon removed more of the brown skin finish and in places the stitching.
I have found since that a good scrub with brown wax polish makes the cardboard look quite fetching.

The solar chicken was a much better buy.
Is that photo before or after the brown polish?

Don't you just hate that "new shoe" look with the price label still on the sole.

Well look on the bright side if you still have the cardboard box that they came in you can make a new pair :)

It's like that line from "The Producers" where Zero Mostel is trying to show how poor he has become by telling Gene Wilder "Look at me. I wear a cardboard belt. A cardboard belt!". I have often wondered how a cardboard belt could hold your trousers up, but it would go well with cardboard shoes. It would also match the chip butty I got at Peterborough that was made out of cardboard.....

Cardboard shoes! You were lucky, I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing "Hallelujah."

But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.:D
