Getting Better
Enough of looking at over priced motorhomes and campers that are ready to fall apart….

I’m now going to buy a Ford transit custom and convert it myself, a mwb, L2 I believe would be good and don’t mind if it’s a low roof as I don’t need the height..😊 but a high roof is ok. Has to be automatic and spending up to 16k and around 5-6k on a simple rear bed conversion that I will do myself with good quality fittings and a lithium solar set up

I’m looking for one from 2013 onwards there’s very few out there so if anyone sees or hears about one then please let me know.

If anyone has any info on conversions then I’d like to hear about it…

Here’s hoping…😎

Hello

I did a bit of a search on Aurotrader and these came up. No sure if they suit you?

Welcome to the Dark Side!

Loads of stuff on youtube. I had to wait a month or two to get a high-spec (Trend) low-mileage (23K) Transit L3H3 at 13K+VAT. 2014 model, not white, 4 years old when I got it. Any ex-commercial will have a few bodywork imperfections, and I have to squint a bit not to see them. Total conversion about 8K, but a significant part of that was diesel heating (I didn't want gas).

Not sure about the Custom, but seems more expensive at first sight. Not sure I could cope with being stuck in a small van when it's raining and there's nothing to do outside...

ALL panel vans are commanding big money nowadays.
My suggestion would be a commercial van auction.
Seen some good un's go through at acceptable prices.

Not sure whether I'm talking rubbish here, but I have it in mind that fitting swivel seat plates on modern Transit's isn't altogether straightforward due to the handbrake position.

I seem to think that you have to fit a lowering kit for the handbrake mount?

Probably talking rubbish!!!

Ours is a 2022 Transit Custom. Have to put it in gear and lower the handbrake to swivel the drivers seat but that was the case with our VW Topaz a few years ago.

my transit requires the handbrake lowered.

Try keeping an eye on Mannheim auctions

But, you might need the height one day if you meet up with someone, Joan writing this
If I do They won’t be standing up….😆😉😎
I was going to suggest a shorter bed length but then thought "what if he get's lucky?" ....

Not sure if it's a Burstner or a Renault Master feature, but the handbrake on ours always sits in the horizontal position, even after you pull it on, it's designed to drop back to clear the seat ?

This one on ebay up in Sheffield though. I'd offer to look at for you initially but I'm away at minute. Item number 225126735945

The oldest I'd go is 2014.
A Euro 6 engine is a must.

Otherwise you will find you will be banned (or pay heavily) to drive into most cities and many towns in the next few years.
This will also affect the eventual resale value.

Personally I'd also buy a Fiat Ducatto or a Mercedes Sprinter if you can afford the extra premium.

I intend to have the bed sideways…. Plenty of leg room for me…😎
A Transit Custom is about 10cm narrower than a Ducato inside and the sides curve in too. If you're under ~165cm tall and the bed is low, you stay light on the wall insulation and you can avoid the internal wall bracing, it might be doable. But that's a lot of ifs.

A 5.4m (L2) Ducato is far more practical. It does just about fit in a standard parking space (provided the cars around you aren't also completely filling their spaces). The width and flat sides makes transverse beds a lot easier. Autos are pretty rare though.
