I have been doing this FT for the last 18 months, adventures in various countries happily with my two teenage daughters. Been stuck in Portugal, (enjoyed it), 5 times now, broken arm twice, once dancing on a hoverboard, then having to be reset, fifth gear issues twice and now this feels pretty surreal.

I try to go with the flow, there was no plan. I haven’t done social media, no Facebook/whatsapp. I love seeing people in person when I am there if I can be myself around them and I am crap at staying in touch. Bit buggered presently though despite generally enjoying my own space I am now feeling isolated and thought I might have to open my mind to social media. Any ideas?

i have had to rent a cottage in Braga for a while. I was in my favourite beach with the cows with bells on near Figueira, Algarve, before it hit the fan and somehow ended up here. Did most of the campsites close as suspected?

I'd sit tight where you are, there is nothing going on bar the rent over here. Most campsites have closed for the time being, there are places to pull. but from speaking to a few full timers I know, whether living in Motorhomes, Caravans, or Narrowboats it's getting difficult to move on.

I've just been offered some work in Wales, with a place to pull, but it's not for me at the moment because I can get a few quid where I'm based in Suffolk, no great shakes, but it keeps things ticking over.

Don't be a stranger.

Hi, were you at Boca do Rio, one of our favourite spots, we were there at the end of February for a night. We are resident on a site near Tavira and have been allowed to stay but all tourers have had to leave, which is the official position. In theory all campsites and camperstops are closed except for permanent residents on the sites though I know of three camperstops that have allowed tourers to stay but are closed to new arrivals.

I don't want to worry you but you have moved from the safest area in Portugal regarding Covid 19 with no cases at all until last weekend to an area with the highest incidence in Portugal, safer in a cottage though as long as you follow the distancing rules.

This online English language paper is good for daily updates.

I would still advise staying put and isolating as much as possible, we are staying until things return to relative normality.

You will find lots of online help through this forum and there are several members in Portugal.

Take care.

Welcome. This is a good forum for a good chat and advice. Like you, I’ve resisted many of the social media opportunities out there, frequented by too many social misfits. Good luck, stay safe and focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. (y);)

Small world. There just after you left. I wonder if we ever passed.

Thanks for your advice and links. I realise I moved into the virus area. But I acted perhaps too hastily initially and rushed to stay with my Portuguese friend in Porto to get head space to workout a plan. Then I wanted to keep close so I was not faced with questions or road blocks.

Also if I got ill she would care of my girls, has my back and I don't really know anyone here so that felt important.

Besides we are in a really beautiful rural area in the middle of nowhere with enough food to see us through a fair few months, that is embarrassingly English of me. We are in a gated cottage, garden and pool completely to ourselves, otherwise the girls would be naturally tempted to socialise. Dancing a lot now we have space. I don't want to live in tomorrow or yesterday just enjoying the opportunity to have a boogie, now we have floor space, but a little isolated because we are being very safe and literally have no contact with anyone. I have lost a few relatives in the UK already so I'm being cautious and know life is kind to us. We are here for months and being static however lovely it is makes me nuts.

Thanks for your response. Nice to remember Boca do Rio and to realise it wasn't just a magical place for me.

Appreciate your kindness. Take care.

Hi Toni welcome. We are also in Portugal on the Algarve on a private Aire. All campsites were asked to close although this was then amended to allow residential / full/timers to stay with basic facilities. I am not aware of any sites taking new campers though. Are you on Facebook? I know if one group whose sole aim is to help Motorhomers find somewhere to stay in Portugal and Spain during this crisis.
