First moho 11/2013, second 11/2014 current from 09/2019.
I would like to pick the collective brains of MHF to assist me adding a new 12v socket in the moho. Getting the cable to the right place has been achieved - now I need to work out which cable of the hymer electrics is positive. Below shows where I plan to connect to (at the back of the 12v socket) which is fed from another bunch of wires shown in the second photo_Our moho is an A Class Hymer SL660B 2008. Thanks Martin

The red/black cable coming out of the ceiling is my new cable that will run to the new socket.

I always check with a multi meter that will tell you which one is positive.

Yes, use a meter to be sure.

The Germans play mind games with us. Ours has Brown for negative/ground and Blue for the +12V. Even though I know this, one day on auto-pilot, I wired a socket the wrong way round. It not take long to find this out the hard way.

But if you look hard at that socket you might find + - moulded in.

Hymer use blue for +12v and brown for earth. Your socket will be red for +12v and black/red for earth. But as suggested use a digital meter to be sure whenever you're about to connect something new. Connect the meter red probe to what you think is +ve and black probe to what you think is earth. If you are correct the meter will read "12" (approx). If you are wrong the meter will read "-12 " (approx).

Crikey Martin - brave or what..... ?! ;) Clifton's also in the DIY groove today - I am having two drawers with wheels built and installed into my 3 feet deep cupboard, so I can pull the drawers out to see what rubbish I have in them - Woo Hoo! (y)

Like yours, our van is German too and the wiring colours are unfamiliar.

Thank you all for your help so far, I think I have a multi meter in the shed somewhere - I will search for it. Special thanks to @tonyidle for explaining how to use it as I had no idea! Another question for you - I need to connect the new feed into the existing circuit, what should I search for online - something that splits the power into two. Would any of these do or what would you suggest. Thanks Martin

Getting better
Not a bad idea to fit a fuse on the new socket sized to protect the original wiring as the additional socket may be used to increase the load on the system. The blade connectors will be fine if the load does not exceed the 8 amp stated.
