Just been looking at the 2019 Roadtrek (hymer) new models and they offer a combination of lithium battery, solar and Voltstart. It seems to be a second large capacity alternator, with the engine switched on automatically whether you are in the van or not to recharge the battery if it gets low.

Anyone any experience of this, seems to have been around in the states for a few years? Do Hymer offer it on their Euro models?

I thought general advice on here was it was detrimental to euro6 engines to run them on idle? Is something else happening here that I’m missing? If it worked sounds like a good solution?

Only appears to be available in the USA, I assume most engines will be petrol. Would it be legal to have a vehicle that starts itself when unattended in Europe?
Not advisable to run any diesel on tickover from cold they never get up to operating temerature.

I can see that system being popular in Europe where you are parked a few feet from the next van and your engine starts in the middle of the night.
