Hymers are good quality but more info needed. Age, Mileage, MOT history. Oh and the 1.9 TD is a bit under powered.

Hi from Ramsgate Kent.

We've had a hymer swing and they are perfect vans for a couple ,we had the 2.8 ..I'm not sure about a 1.9 .. wouldn't want to go abroad in a 1.9 as the mountains would kill it..
Local trips would be fine I'd Imagine

Since 1996, had Elddis/Swift/Rapido/Rimor/Chausson MHs. Autocruise/Globecar PVCs/Compactline i-138
We had a 1.9tdi in a previous 1991 Elddis MH and it was very powerful so I wouldn't let that put you off, it was certainly vastly superior to the 2.8 non-turbo 2001 Swift we had afterwards.

Welcome to MotorhomeFun.

The 1.9TD engine was only used for the shorter models of the Swing (according to my 2002 Hymer brochure). The shorter length models were the 494 (5.0m) and the 544K (5.5m). The 544K will give you more usable space with the kitchen at the back.

I had a 6m long Hymer based on the 544 layout and it was excellent.

Suggest the OP checks the payload. The 2 models quoted above only have a maximum permitted weight of 3200kg with a payload of less than 500kg.

Also, check the underside of the roof for signs of water ingress (staining of the inner panels). Probably best to get it checked out with a damp meter BEFORE purchase.

Perhaps you could advise which model you are considering and the age of the vehicle.

Brother has a 2004 hymer swing . A good layout for a couple with fixed rear bed.
But with a 3.0 renault plant.

I had a similar layout challenger(OK not a hymer :giggle:) but with a 1.9td Citroën plant,we covered a few thousand miles around Europe and the 1.9 kept up even over the pyrenees, and quieter than the 2.5td frankia tractor i had previously.
