Hymer ring bolts (1 Viewer)

Anyone any idea where to get these ? Bought some others on eBay but can’t get then into the groove unless I dismantle the whole side of the van. They’ve got a sort of jagged nut that you can get into the groove (Baby).

If you can remove the rail end caps as I did then bought stainless steel eye nuts on eBay and cut 8m roofing bolts to suit and slid them in.

Electrical wholesaler or electricfix (screwfix)
They are used in cable tray/management systems.
The special nuts are known as ZEB'S or zebedee's due to the coil spring built in which holds them in place before the bolt is screwed in.

I widened one end of the rail with a dremmel and slid them in.

I had some cheaper ones in the last van that I got off my Hymer dealer. Left those in the van and removed the genuine ones they are expensive but much easier to use. Being realist what's 20 quid compared to the price of the van.

Thats the trouble my rails go right to the side of the garage...there aren’t any end caps.

Did you use an angle grinder or just a hacksaw to cut your roofing bolts....I need to cut mine for the chock fixing

Method I use for shortening bolts with a hacksaw is:

Get a piece of plywood, say 5mm thick and drill a hole slightly smaller than the bolt. Screw the bolt into the plywood until it protrudes to where you want to make the cut. Place the plywood vertically in a vice and cut.......simples

I guess everyone does this...……. I put on a nut on the bolt (any nut that fits) before cutting a bolt and then when you remove it it cleans the thread and corrects any cutting deformation or burrs. It also keeps it aligned for cutting when putting it in vice jaws.

I never knew there was so much to cutting a bolt....SO...I also need to make these holes a millimetre bigger as the holes seem to be 8mm and my mate roofing bolts are 8mm so won’t go through ( why do they make things with a hole the exact size of an bolt ). I’ve tried a round file but the steel8# too tough. HSS drill I suppose ?

Haven't read the entire thread. I had this problem. I just cut a slot in the ally channel with a dremel....

Retired engineer so it’s hacksaw then dress the cut end with a fine flat file chamfering it a tad.
