Have any other folks had trouble with their recent model habitation door catches?
Ours is coming up to 3 years old.
We've had 2 flimsy return springs break, and today I had to break in again because the outside catch didn't connect, a real pain in the butt.
We noticed at Stoneleigh that they're still fitting the same rubbish to new ones.

Which door have you got Norman, standard one or the double catch Komfort door?
We had the standard one on the last van 3 years use no problems but didn't like the way it only latched on the centre of the door.
Current van has the Hartel komfort door 2 years and no problems.
Both have been in use for quite a few years not seen many reported problems maybe you have been unlucky with a duff batch of springs.
Could you change the springs for stronger ones or has something else broken this time?

Makes me pleased I have a drivers door.

That's the standard door, I just had a punt around looks like you are stuck with Hymer for parts.
Might be worth giving Chris a ring at Reliance he used to work for Premier and knows a lot about Hymer parts.

I've actually got a spare set of springs from Campirama, Someone suggested to make one out of piano wire. Just so damned annoying.

So if the little wire springs fail you can't open the door from outside?
If so piss poor design.

We've currently got a problem with ours. Can't open the door from the outside, so Graham has to go in the driver's door and open the hab door from the inside, to let me and the dog in :(. We've got it booked in to be fixed under warranty.

Just found this spring gone too. Its the one that returns the outside handle, but not in the spare spring set supplied from Campirama. I can't see how to get the complete handle out, it's attached somewhere at the bottom out of sight. WHAT A JOYOUS DAY!

I Posted on other thread repeating here, I have the Komfort door with two catches springs failed on both and renewed under warranty. The springs are handed left and right. Been trying to source spare springs without success photos are of upper catch. So if anyone finds a supplier shout up.

Hi Lenny quite a few reports of spring failures on Hymer Owners Group, TW do sell replacement springs but they are not cheap recall someone saying £15 each plus p&p

When mine went it was the return spring which meant every time door was opened you had to push the catch back into the stow position or it fouled the door frame if you forgot and went to close the door.

Thanks Peter, but wrong shape. See first picture, but still haven't fathomed how the bottom end (hidden from view) is attached to the door.

There is a known problem with a batch of those Hymer locks. You have to be very careful if you open the door with the internal handle directly from locked in one pull. It is much safer to pull gently once to unlock, let the handle return and then pull again to open. Due to poor tolerances and a weak spring it is possible to flip one of the cams in the lock overcentre thereby disabling the external handle. Removing the small spring, flipping the cam back then reattaching the spring makes it work again - a mechanic at Campirama showed me how when it happened to our van. Hymer/Campirama changed our lock to a later batch and it’s been ok since.

To conclude (I hope). Pic 1 the return spring reconnected using a twisted paper clip.

Pic 2 new spring fitted (Montagezubehor Feder B1047 UP 2931536). I added a larger washer because I suspect the wear was caused by the spring loop rubbing against the small washer.
