The Etrusco A Class https://www.etrusco.com/series-a-class/?lang=en that we saw at the recent NEC Show was described as a budget Hymer but to our untrained eyes having a very quick look the cost savings weren't obvious as they are in some other budget makes so maybe one to consider?

They have a full range of models but the A Class above was getting the most attention.

For anyone looking for a narrow but long coachbuilt (6.6m) their "Van" with the clever Vario (pull across shower wall) bathroom does look very good but unfortunately didn't spot this one at the Show.

they do not seem to know where the places are in the UK Aberdeen seems to have moved along with a few others , on the map and numbers . The A class looks bit like my MLT 580 body on a FIAT, Excis maybe??? They are probably using the same designs except for details.

Here are a few more photos of the A Class I 7400 QB - not the best as taken quickly on my phone as busy in there!

This one looks very similar interior to our old Exsis I 698 back in 2015 we paid £49 k for it and I think the interior was slightly better than this one.

Etrusco is Carado made in Italy. They re-badged Carado and Sunlight, no better, no worse. But Hymer, they are not.

Most important differences are the construction and insulation. A Carado-Sunlight-Etrusco is made of a wood frame on which are attached aluminium panels for the outside and wood panel on the inside. Between the panels you have expanded polystyrene sheets. Exactly the same method used in most caravans.

Hymer uses a totally different approach, based on the natural bonding between the poly-urethane foam and aluminium to create a solid sandwich Al-PU-Al. Those panels being naturally strong and rigid, they don't need a wooden frame, well they don't need a frame at all. The panels are the structure. And 3cm of PU give much better insulation than 2.5cm of expanded polystyrene.

Also, on Carado-Sunlight-Etrusco, the under-floor is treated wood. Should be OK, but certainly not as durable as a GRP sheet.

Carado-Sunlight-Etrusco are not winterized. Most notably you can expect water freezing problems in sub-zero temperatures. The Truma heater is generally placed in the rear, under the bed, meaning where you can hear it the best at night and for the long models, a bit far from the lounge area to easily heat that part when it is very cold outside.

Not being made like Hymer is also what allows them to be sold at budget prices and they are indeed very well made and the vario bathroom is a very successful design that comes from older Dethleffs models. For people with no intentions of using the motorhome in winter, I think they are among the best buys on the market.

My coachbuilt Carado, has the aluminium (&GRP) styrene faced Panels bonded onto the internal wooden furniture structure and the roof bonded onto that. You can see from these production vids that any wood used is very well protected and bonded. Coated Marine ply wood with a very thick underseal is used underneath (I had a tiny flake the size of a bogie come off in 4.5 years). Mine is double floored and the water tank situated inside the van. Many European hire firms use these vans as they are simple and robust. Only problems so far is the mudflaps splitting and the Thetford toilet flush valve sticking, the structure is very robust (particularly the ally sheeting) and does not rattle. Unfortunately not something I could say about my previous Elddis 115, the ally sheet dented when you breathed on it and had a symphony of rattling when new.
We lived in the van for nearly a year when travelling 12,000 miles to the top & bottom of Europe, no probs.

Yes, but you bought it from Germany, when the exchange rate was 1.42 Euros to the Pound! :D:D:D

Oh yes so we did but not quite that high I think €1.40 but who’s worried about a couple of points eh???? Do think it’s gonna get that high again??

The £2135 road tax caught my eye..
Looks a nice van though.
I think most people will have seen that and the ongoing roadtax fees. This will probably reflect in the sales figure from now on, be prepared for a big culling of the dealers selling new vans and the UK makers going tits up. Good old government get everything wrong because they are not thought through enough.

From the photo it looks like £59390 basic price! It does add that there is £4000 UK launch discount though.

The brochure shown says just under 63k £'s
It seems as though it is cheaper to buy it outside of the UK, then.

J
