Before knocking the OP , it’s their first post, some of us do pay for guided tours. Nick and I went on a brilliant one to Norway with GB motorhome tours and if it hadn’t been for Covid we would have gone with them to Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary last year and Croatia this year. They can be great fun and you don’t travel in convoy. Of course it’s cheaper to do it yourself but some of us choose to spend our money in different ways and have more of it to spend anyway. I don’t tell people who spend their money on motorbikes or guitars that it’s a waste of money just because they don’t interest me.

Good for you. Too many people quick to be critical generally.

We have.enjoyed some of these escorted tours in the past. The first one was a good introduction to continental travel and new future friends.

Ok so some of you do it then, but what do you get for your 4 grand over just going yourself.
By the way not knocking how you spend your money, just can't see what you get for it.

I can only speak for us but there was no way we would have travelled to Norway on our own. We are completely useless at any sort of DIY, at home if something goes wrong we pay a man! It just gave us a feeling of security, there’s always someone who can help you out.

I am very sociable and will talk to anyone but Nick is more reserved with new people but in a group he finds it easier and ends up enjoying it. If we were on our own we wouldn’t really meet new people which I love.

GB tours do a nice mix of joint meals and leaving you to your own devices. There are a few organised trips on buses to places that would be difficult to get at by public transport or in your van, that sort of thing. Obviously they’re a business so out to make a profit but for us we loved it.

I suppose we were then hoping to go on another tour to somewhere where we wouldn’t have gone on our own until Covid struck. We were also on the waiting list for Turkey.

France, Spain and Germany and other places in Western Europe are easy and well within our comfort zone.

You see quite apart from the money, it is just the opposite to what we want and why we have a motorhome, we like to find the places we want to see on our own and not have to do what others want, never mind actually pay someone for it.
We like meeting people but on our own terms, we have met people from all over on Aires we have found ourselves, not the same people every day though.
Ok if that's what you like, but not for us I'm afraid.
Mind you I think pretty much the same about cruises , and there are thousands maybe millions that go on them.

That’s absolutely fine . I think it’s wonderful that we all like different things. What I thought was a shame was the way the OP made their first post and was almost criticised. It wasn’t very welcoming.

We tried a cruise round the Caribbean when we first retired to see if we would like it. It was OK but not really our cup of tea. I do try to follow the “don’t knock it til you’ve tried it” philosophy as much as possible.

Worth reading:-

An organised tour would not be on our agenda either but I can see the benefit. Strangely we used to like discovering individual cities on our own but then discovered the benefit of an initial guided tour.

I know GB motorhome tours do and all the other companies I’ve looked at do so I would imagine so. I think that’s the point of the tours. You meet up at the sites for the specified number of nights, there’s usually a suggested route if there’s a really good thing to look at en route but otherwise you make your own way. Some people will just get up and shoot off by the fastest route to the next site whereas others will meander and take in the sights.

The OP is probably unaware of the number of members here unwilling to spend £30/night.
£200pp for an excursion is not out of the way and the trip includes pitch fees. Make your own choice. Escorcted tours are likely to give you much more than you might discover by chance.
If the money bothers you, you could copy the itinerary for free and DIY...

Thanks for the info, Hymerjo37.

Starting to understand
I went to the Canary Islands with G B Motorhome Tours in 2019, had a fabulous time & met loads of fellow motorhomers. Yes, everything is included in the price, Campsites, Ferrys, Including meals on the Cadiz to Canaries ferry along with inside cabins, also group meals out, wine tasting & coach tours to various places. You pay for fuel & food for yourselves etc. For me travelling alone it suited me fine. Yes you could do it cheaper, but this way its all organised for you.
