Evening people,

Recently purchased a Hymer B584 2800cc on a 2007 plate currently plated at gross 3500kgs.

Couple of things we are looking in to and would like the wisdom from persons thatr have already carried them out.

Our van is currently running on 15" wheels and at 60 mph is pulling 3000 rpm.....therefore if we fitted 16" wheels with simular profile tyres what would be the decrease in rpm.....overal benefit5 in performance

Any good suggestions where to exchange our 5 x 15" wheels/tyres for 5 16" wheels/tyres plus cash

Engine remap....on the Fiat 2800cc (2007) what iprovements on performance and economy are to be had

1" isnt much, but putting it on 16" will decrease acceleration and low speed pulling power.

motorway cruising may be more economical but more frequent downchanges on hills and headwinds.

speedo wont be anywhere near accurate...not that it is anyway.

you will need to inform your insurance company or they may reject any future claims.

then you have the problem of finding suitable wheels for your hubs...later wheels may be different.

Hi Andy, nice to have met you this weekend. :thumb:
Our van has 15" wheels but has a 6 speed box so the gearing is not the same.
But I know on the Fiat the 5th gear is a bolt on the side of the gear box, and a few people have the same trouble and they change them for the high geared one, we had the high gear on our last van, and would have been better off with the low geared one because we tow a car.
You could change the tyre sizes, I used to love new tyres on the truck it went another 2 mile an hour.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Bob.

Hi Bob and Jane

Good to meet you to

ive now come to realise it will mean fitting a new 5th gear to ease the rpm, will be interesting how the costs works out.......failing that i will fit a set of Boy Racer 20 " specials , that should bring down the rpm to about 2000 with atop speed on the flat of about 110 , just wont get up many hills :ROFLMAO:

Hi Dinger
The Fiat 5th gear syndrome is well known especialy on the Hymers, For reasons best known to Hymer they specify the short legged fifth from fiat when new.

Too far to help you down in kent,
But we have done quite a few conversions to the higher 5th gear with all customers so far happy with the improvement, it will drop your RMP to aprox 2500-2600 @60 mph
It will still tow well and pull hills without constant downshifting
Costs vary depending where it done but budget for around ÂŁ350 ish with a new gear set

There are other members on here who may be able to give better details

Hi again
If only life were that simple, Fiat no nothing of the upgrade, and very very few independants do either
Fiat can only tell you what gear set you should have fitted not what you need.
the cross referencing needed is a black art. and time consuming It would be foolish to just post a part No's as it could result in the wrong set being bought, even when you think you have done every thing to tie it down errors still occur and you would be left with ÂŁ200+ worth of useless gears
The job is best left to those who know, take it to your local garage and leave the problem with them
Maybe some one on here can let you know who is best in your area
