Hi All can someone tell me if the Hydratrail with the swivel wheels Legal in France, Hydratrail tell that it’s not classed as a trailer , so does not come with certificate of conformity, I want to carry a 125cc scooter on our Autotrail camper van
They do say that it is legal in Europe, but I have heard so many stories on the net. Can anyone throw any light on this
Many thanks
Colin

Hi and welcome,
A major manufacturers of swivel wheeled transverse trailers in France are Yo,I think there could be more.
I live between Port and France. In Portugal I think over350 kgms you have to register a trailer and in France it’s 500,
My transverse trailer was made in Ross on Wye and never had a problem in Europe.
Hope this helps and enjoy your travels and the forum.

I had a Hydratrail. Covered over 10k miles on it around Europe. Never got stopped once. Had blow out in Spain, strap broke and locked one of the wheels. Helped by two Spanish Police motorcyclists. Never mentioned it was legal or not, only very supportative and very helpful. I used to carry a dog on my scooter with Mrs Vic. Now we have two dogs meaning that I no longer take the scooter and that is the only reason I sold it.

What Vic said.

8k miles covered in Europe without upsetting any Police.

I prefer the side loading trailers. I had one and fitted an aluminium storage box to it. I was able to carry the bike, spare wheel and lots of accessories in the box.

My side loading trailer is hard to reverse as it has a short towbar and a long overhang on the MH which makes it jack knife EXCEEDINGLY easily as the rear of my MH will testify with its broken plastic "bumper". You also cannot see it other than with a reversing camera. Other than that, it's great!!

Thank you all for your in put I am also looking to purchase it from Ross On Wye, feel a bit reassuring
now , best comments come from people who had or had one

If you go for the Hydra, get a couple of wheels AND tyres off ebay. I found it difficult to get the tension right on the swivels. Yes, tyres are available abroad, but much more expensive.
