I wondered why the back wouldn't stay on my 5577 box, turns out the battery had seriously bloated, not sure what sort of risk this offers, but I stopped using it and got a new one. I'm guessing a lot of people have these hard wired and may not give them a second thought.

It is a well known issue, or at least when I was researching buying an E5577 I found several references to it. As with phones and other similar devices, best to allow discharge and recharge cycles rather than leaving on a permanent supply.

I made my own mounting box, similar to the Motorhome WiFi unit, and as it happens also fitted a buck converter USB supply inside it, although I must admit the reason given by Lenny HB never crossed my mind!

I’ve got a power supply on mine but only turn it on when required and turn it off once charged.

I fitted a Buck converter supply that turns off the USB output when the batteries charged to avoid the problem.
Any chance of a deeper explanation? I know what a buck converter is, I use one to reduce my ebike 36v batt down to 6v to power the lights, but do not understand how you get it to stop supplying the USB ports when the E5577 battery is charged.
