There are lots of very cheap gps speedos (for usual difficult to see Fiat speedo problem) on e-bay. £20 ish for some. Are they any good at this price level?

All the HUD devices I have looked at only take data from the ECU. I have one on my Portuguese car so that I can have MPH when in the UK and I can say that it seems to mirror the car speedo very well.

My eBay cheapo uses GPS - the only connection is power.

Hi,
Fiat speedos are a bit inaccurate , whether that applies to ecu also I don't know. The setting up for OBD connection is a bit beyond me at present so I was looking at the GPS option

OP said GPS speedos, plenty on eBay I'm thinking of getting one, worth a punt at aroung20 quid.

I got the LTC GPS HUD Speedometer from amazon £24 ish it works well I matched the speed to the sat nav it took a a bit to set up as the instuctions are not good , Lynne read them  and set it up when we were driving I did not bother with the heads up display on the windscreen as we have a A-Class ........very happy with it so far

The big issue for me was where to place the device on the dash for the HUD, also couldn't find a place on the dash that wasn't curved or over a screen vent, to stick it on. I gave up and have gone back to the sat nav, which I use all the time. The HUD device has done may thousands of miles in the drivers door waiting for another go at fixing! There were lots of satisfying flashing numbers and lights, though.

Be a little more careful with the GPS speedos, they tend to be very very accurate, unlike the standard in vehicle which can give an overstated speed of maybe 5%. If the speed limit is for example, 50kph and the gps speedo show 50kph there is very little margin for error before before you are in excess.

I recently got one off fleabay, seems fine, just using it on display mode, not HUD. Can show speed in mph or kph. It's this one:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-GPS-HUD-Digital-Head-Up-Display-Car-Speedometer-Speed-Warning-MA1914/153360489307?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

The pictures are labelled the wrong way round, swap HUD and normal. Looks good.

That's true! Not tried the HUD display. I stuck it on the dash & seems OK, at least I can see it!

Plenty of choice on your smartphone, both apple and android.
Seem to work well. Less than £2.00 for the pro, no ad, versions

And I said the only ones I had seen were not GPS, just giving my experience without trying to rubbish anyone.

Thanks all,
worth a go, will save running int something while trying to see Fiat speedo

Reading the dials on the dashboard is something we are trying to sort out. I have tried an app, works OK but was using it on my phone so couldn't keep it on continually ( I am not the driver!). Looked at the HUD displays but didn't really want another thing on dashboard & wasn't sure how easy they would be to wire up so discounted them. I have been looking/ searching the forums in vain looking for at least one thread which I remember talked about fitting LED lights over the dials to illuminate them. Can anyone help me find these threads please.
Thanks

Got a speedometer app on my phone, free app, just used it from Cherbourg to Spain .... brilliant.... best thing I never paid for!

I use this one its not Hud but has a nice clear display displays a choice of 2 other items as well as speed, mph or kmh which can be altered by percentages to make it as accurate as you like, plugs into the odb port using a flat cable so also reads odb fault codes and removes them.

Love the product description :)

Got LTC gps HUD a few days ago. Have tested it in the car (more rapid speed change) very good (adjusted) correlation with car speedo and reacts to changes quite quickly. Good quality and instructions are very clear. Should sort the problem
