A few years.
I know it is easy, but no. All other such mixer taps I've battled with have had a screw down brass retainer. Mine has a plastic thing with four tangs, these fit under four ridges on the tap barrel. My problem is with the screw down type you can compress the cartridge until it is water tight. I can not compress the thing enough to rotate the tangs under the ridges. Any thoughts much appreciated.

I'm away until Monday will take copious photos then. I assume it is a German tap as it is in a Weinsberg, hoping someone had been there done it.

I found a repair kit for my 20 year old tap very reasonably, but it was a Grohe so recognised brand which was easy to identify.

Fixed it for now. On closer inspection the rubber gasket on the new one did not fit the indent in the tap, hence the 1mm I could not compress. I picked the gasket from the old cartridge and turned it around. Refitted no problem and works as it should. In the end a no cost repair.
