Hi

We are back in the UK as my husband is ill.
I have never had to drain down the boiler or empty the fresh water.
We have a Dethleffs Advantage I7011
This is the boiler.

How do I drain the boiler and how do I empty the fresh water?

Can someone phone me and talk me through it.
I think I may have already messed up as I don’t know if boiler is already drained and I put heating on.
There is not a yellow tap anywhere near the boiler. There is a blue tap and I opened it and then closed it straight away.
There appears to be water dripping under the van.
Can anyone help and I will pm my phone number.

Not familiar with that van but sure some Dethleffs owners will be on later..
Top left of the picture under the red pipe, that looks like the auto dump valve for the boiler but never had a van with one of those so cant say how they work.
Sit tight, someone will be on soon. (y)

ps.. Glad to hear you got back home safely, Hope Alan is getting sorted,

Found this.. <Broken link removed>

Thanks Tonka.
As you know we are always in Beni for winter and never had to do any of this stuff.
There was a frost on vehicles this morning and I panicked. Don’t know what the hell I am doing and Alan cannot really help me.
Hope you are feeling better.
Thanks for replying x

If you turned the blue tap, then you have opened the dump valve correctly - espessially if water was rujnning from underneither the boiler area. At the foot of the black unit where the blue tap sits on is a blue button, this should be out. Dont worry too much about resetting it now, it only has to be done prior to re-filling. Don't worry about putting the heater on as it doesn't need water to heat the MH, you only need water in the boiler for hot water. If you are going to leave the MH, power off the Hab electrics and open the taps including the shower, this will drain as much water as possible from the pipes and any freezing, gives more pipework to expand.

Thank you very much. We have been reading all the books and cannot understand any of it p. Will check again in a minute, thank you

Hi lesleyjean,

You could do a final check to see if you've done everything right by running the taps inside the van. If there's no water coming out, the tanks are empty. The automatic dump valve on my Weinsberg Motorhome is located inside the services locker (where I fill up with water)....not sure about yours. Just make sure you reset the button and run the hot taps to fill the water heater again before putting it on next time you use the van otherwise you'll run the risk of damaging your heating element. You'll know the water heater is full with water when you get water coming back through the inside taps when you next set up.

Thank everyone for your replies. I feel so thick. Had Motorhomes since 2008 but never had to this before as we are usually always in warmer climates for winter. (Sigh of relief)
Think I have done it now. X

Lesliejean.... please please don't say that... sure "you ain't so thick" but more likely like my wife who, despite my constant nagging, just in case she does have to do it herself and despite her promises she will she shows absolutely no interest in that side of our passion.
Interesting to know how many others are in this situation.
Hope everything turns out ok
Stephen

Somewhere you will have the blue drain valve for the boiler, also look in the underfloor compartments for the yellow lever, ours is in the same underfloor area near the door.

just as an add on if you have mixer taps make sure the are turned on and it the middle position ie both hot and cold open
