How to disable stop start.

our VW Tiguan has a button to press to turn off stop start.

Would have thought the T6 would have had it already

Our Passat (2011) has stop start and, when the battery went to the Big Spark in the sky
I made enquiries and the specific stop start battery was twice the price of a conventional
battery.

Being a tightwad, I bought the cheaper version and switch the stop/start off if necessary.

I can only assume that VW have removed that facility. In a similar vein, I cannot reverse out of
my space without engaging the seat belt even though, by law, I do not need to wear a seat
belt when reversing.

It does but sometimes you forget to turn it off and I find it a nuisance when the engine dies then touch the clutch pedal and it fires back up also I don’t like the constant use of the starter motor and battery. The part I’ve fitted has turned the stop start off permanently until you reprogram it to function as normal.

Today I’ve fitted a device from China that has disabled the stop start on my 2021 VW T6.1, total cost with tax and postage £18-60p.
here’s the link as they sell for other models of vehicles.

Have you read the full description?
Any company who can't provide a reasonable translation from the original language won't be getting my money.
At one point the refer to starting the TRAIN?????

Takes minutes to adapt to the benefits.

Top job circumventing it
Main reason I switch mine off is excessive battery drain.
I had to replace the starter battery at just 3 years old.
I just can't see the point in a busy town etc when you may stop 2 or 3 times at the SAME set of lights due to heavy traffic and abysmal traffic light timing.
Now it's part of my routine......
Electric brake hold on
Electric Park brake off
Stop start off
Takes seconds.

Interesting points of view. My stop start is not interrupted by air con or any other load. Just shortens the Stop bit.

It should turn it off. Air con isn't any use if it turns off when needed most. Having said that it may be do to many places now ranyone to switch engine off when stopped even at lights and even if you don't have stopstart.

My cars that had S/S, thr air on has en eco mode that runs slower for stop/start mode engagement. If in full power mode A/C stop/start wouldn’t deprive that system of power - so the engine would always run.

I got shot of my Citroen Cactus after only 6 weeks. I couldn't disable the S/S function and by the time the engine had restarted and the utterly abysmal robotised auto gearbox had engaged 1st gear the gap in the traffic had gone. If I did get into a gap, say at a roundabout, it changed at 20mph into 2nd gear, slowing so much between 1st and 2nd that I was getting abuse from the cars that nearly ran into the back of mine. It only had Forward, Neutral and Reverse so I couldn't make it hold in 1st or start off in 2nd. Absolute rubbish car for other reasons too.
I changed to a sublime 7 speed Audi DSG transmission without S/S that never loses drive between gears and I only know it has changed by looking at the rev counter or the dashboard gear indicator. Brilliantly engineered all round.

Both our cars and the previous ones had it. love it. Why would you turn it off. Yes I've read it does your head in, but come on,

Air con these days, only functions when the vehicle is travelling.Manufacturers realised they could get away with it. proper air con will be capable of refrigerating hanging meat whilst idling , as it should. You'll only find it in older vehicles.Try having 7people in an mpv with front & rear air con & it still is shit.

I turn mine off. There is a delay I don't need when joining a busy road. My car has a DSG box so the engine restarts as I touch the throttle. I loathe the thing.

Out VW T6 is six years old, the Stop-Start is used most of the time. It doesn't switch off when the aircon is in use but is disabled if the battery is a bit low. Yes it can be a pain in heavy traffic jams so we do press the button to switch it off in these conditions but otherwise it is good, specially helpful in the odd cases of the engine dyeing as it starts it again with full depression of the clutch.
Yes we have had a new engine battery at four and a half years and 50,000miles, price about £100 from Euro Car Parts, a Varta E39 70ah AGM, same spec as original except a bit more capacity. They are a bit dearer now!

If you are a VW T6 owner here are the various methods of providing the option to disable Stop-Start at will plus all of the arguments for and against - https://www.t6forum.com/threads/stop-start-doing-your-head-in-disabling-it-how-we-done-it.11117/

Perhaps misunderstanding. My air con radio etc. All work when engine in stop mode of stop start. Someone above was suggesting pitting air con On will stop the stop start system..... Not in my car.

Or slow down and be mind ready and car ready for a gap that doesn’t need such fine margins of manoeuvring. 👍🏻
My commute was from West Berks to West London: A4 - M4 - A4 and stop/start was not unsafe. My occasional haste was.👀😳

I hate it. First thing I do is switch it off, that goes for the wife as well, that’s the SS not the wife. 😎

In my previous car, S/S gave an extra 5mpg and the programming was great in that you'd never notice it. Not like these stories of having to wait to move off. In my more recent cars, the air-con works even when parked, if you tell it to, even remotely when you're not there (but anticipating driving off soon). But then, they're electric cars with electric air-con compressors.

No appreciable delay on any of ours. As for starting at the touch of the throttle, is this not the same as any automatic?

This appears to be a thread for Luddites.

Got to add my wife doesn't like stop start and got me to turn it off her last car. But then she doesn't like change, particularly technical change where she doesn't feel in control. On her current electric car it can't be turned off and she is now altogether used to it.

I'm getting used to my S/S now, but if I've done a long stretch of motorway say and come off at a slip road with traffic lights and have to stop, I always let the engine idle as I don't think it's good for a red hot turbo to suddenly loose it's oil supply ?

I hated stop start on Skoda Karoq DSG. But I have persevered and now I have got used to it. There is a slight interruption to progress which is unsettling at first, but you get used to it and learn to trust it.
