AM fitting a 2ND battery how thick should the live and earth wire be

dont know the gauge but i used 50amp wire and the batteries are around 1 mtr apart.
DONT FORGET to fit a fuse at BOTH ends of the positive wire as a short on the wire, if only one is fitted, will blow the fuse but the other end will still be live from the unfused battery, ...i used 30amp fuses.
